Bye-Laws of 2024 to amend the Bye-Laws 2024 in terms of the

D octor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – Degree Regulations, 2023

for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. –

under the auspices of the Centre for English Language Proficiency

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred upon him by articles 74(5) and 75(6) of the

Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated

the following bye-laws made by the Board of the Centre for Academic Literacies and

English Communication Skills in virtue of the powers conferred upon it by article

7(b)(v) of the Statute for the Centre and which have been approved by the Senate of

the University of Malta

Citation

These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2024 to amend the Bye-

Laws of 2024 in terms of the Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – Degree Regulations,

2023 for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – and shall be read and construed

as one with the Bye-Laws of 2024 in terms of the Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. –

Degree Regulations, 2023 for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. - under the

auspices of the Centre for English Language Proficiency, published as Legal Notice

218 of 2024, hereinafter referred to as “the principal bye-laws”.

Applicability

These bye-laws shall be applicable from 1 December 2024 onwards.

Amendment to the title of the principal bye-laws

For the title of the principal bye-laws there shall be substituted the following

“Bye-Laws of 2024 in terms of the Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – Degree Regulations,

2023 for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – under the auspices of the

Amendment to bye-law 1 of the principal bye-laws

For bye-law 1 of the principal bye-laws there shall be substituted the

following

“Citation and Interpretation

1. (1) These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2024 in terms of the

Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – Degree Regulations, 2023 for the Degree of Doctor

of Philosophy – Ph.D. – under the auspices of the Centre for Academic Literacies and

English Communication Skills.

(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires –

“the Board” means the Board of the Centre for Academic Literacies and

English Communication Skills;

“the Centre” means the Centre for Academic Literacies and English

Communication Skills;

“the Degree” means the degree of Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D.; and

“the Principal Regulations” means the Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. – Degree

Regulations, 2023.”
