Conservation of Wild Birds (Declaration of the Autumn Hunting

Season for Turtle Dove) Regulations, 2021

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by articles 54 and 55 of

the Environment Protection Act and in terms of the provisions of the

fourth proviso of regulation 10(6) of the Conservation of Wild Birds

Regulations, the Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and

Planning, in conjunction with the Minister for Gozo, and after

consultation with the Environment and Resources Authority, has made

the following regulations:-

The title of these regulations is the Conservation of Wild Citation.

Birds (Declaration of the Autumn Hunting Season for Turtle Dove)

Regulations, 2021.

Words and expressions used in these regulations, unless Interpretation.

the context otherwise requires, shall have the same meaning as

assigned to them in the Conservation of Wild Birds Regulations, S.L. 549. 42.

Notwithstanding the provisions of regulation 19(3) of the Establishing of

Wild Birds Regulations, the Autumn Hunting season for Turtle Dove hunting period.

Birds Regulations shall remain applicable to the hunting of Turtle

Dove, save as is otherwise inconsistent with this provision.

(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph 1(a) of

Schedule IV of the Wild Birds Regulations, any Turtle Dove hunted

during September shall be reported immediately through the telephonic

game reporting system or through the game reporting mobile app.

(3) The Autumn Hunting Season for Turtle Dove may be

terminated prior to the 30th September of each year if the quota

established in sub-regulation (1) has been reached.

In the event that the quota has been reached, the Minister

shall order, by notice in the Gazette or any other notice, that the

Autumn Hunting Season for Turtle Dove is to terminate immediately.

All licensees shall be informed immediately of such termination by

means of a short message service (SMS) to the number registered with

the Wild Birds Regulation Unit and no further hunting of Turtle Dove

may be permitted therefrom.

Any person who fails to comply with any provision of

these regulations shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable to the

punishments established under regulation 27(3) or regulation 27A of

the Wild Birds Regulations, as applicable.

The Conservation of Wild Birds (Declaration of the

Autumn Hunting Season for Turtle Dove) Regulations are hereby

repealed.
