Scientific Committee (Amendment) Regulations, 2021

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by article 27(8) and (9)

of the Institute of Tourism Studies Act, the Minister for Tourism and

Consumer Protection has made the following regulations:-

(1) The title of these regulations is the Scientific Citation and

Committee (Amendment) Regulations, 2021 and these regulations commencement.

shall be read and construed as one with the Scientific Committee S.L. 566. 03.

Regulations, hereinafter referred to as "the principal regulations".

(2)

These regulations shall come into force on the 31st August

2021.

In regulation 2 of the principal regulations,in the Amends

definition "Scientific Committee", the words "as established in regulation

the principal

regulation 3." shall be substituted by the words "as established in regulations.

regulation 3;" and immediately thereafter there shall be added

the following new definition:" "sub-committee" means a

committee made up of experts in a particular field appointed by

the Scientific Committee which will focus and give

recommendations on particular areas as directed by the Scientific

Committee.".

Sub-regulation (1) of regulation 3 of the principal Amends

regulation 3 of

regulations shall be amended as follows

the principal

regulations.

(a)

paragraph (a) thereof shall be substituted by the

following new paragraph

"(a) the Chief Operating Officer – Corporate

Services of the Institute, ex officio, who shall act as the

Chairperson of the Committee;";

(b) paragraph (b) thereof shall be substituted by the

following new paragraph

"(b) the Chief Operating Officer – Academia, ex

officio, who shall act as the Deputy Chairperson of the

Committee;";

(c)

paragraph (h) thereof shall be deleted;

(d) paragraphs (i) to (l) thereof shall be renumbered as

paragraphs (h) to (k) respectively;

(e) in paragraph (j) thereof as renumbered, the words

"VallettaCruise Port; and" shall be substituted by the words

"Valletta Cruise Port;"; and

(f)

in paragraph (k) thereof as renumbered, the words

"the Malta Bartenders Guilds:" shall be substituted by the words

"the Malta Bartenders Guilds;" and immediately thereafter there

shall be added the following new paragraphs

"(l) a member representing the Malta’s Federation

of English Language Teaching Organisations (FELTOM);

and

"(m) a member representing the Association of

Catering Establishments:".

Sub-regulation (1) of regulation 7 of the principal

regulations shall be substituted by the following new sub-regulation

"(1) The Scientific Committee shall meet at least twice a

year.".

Immediately after regulation 7 of the principal regulations

there shall be added the following new regulation

" Appointment

(1) In performing its functions, the

Scientific

Committee may appoint sub-committees

composed of experts in particular areas as the case may

be.

(2) Members forming part of any sub-committee

appointed shall report back to the Scientific Committee

in writing with any recommendations.

(3) The sub-committee shall be composed of

three, five or seven members and shall have a quorum of

fifty percent plus one of the members.".
