Quality of Fuels (Amendment) Regulations, 2020

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by article 37 of the

Regulator for Energy and Water Services Act, by article 43 of the

Authority for Transport in Malta Act and by article 374 of the

Merchant Shipping Act, the Minister for Energy and Water

Management and the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital

Projects after consultation with the Regulator for Energy and Water

Services and the Authority for Transport in Malta, have made the

following regulations:-

(1) The title of these regulations is Quality of Fuels Citation,

(Amendment) Regulations, 2020 and they shall be read and construed commencement

and scope.

(2) These regulations shall be deemed to have come into force

on the 1 st May, 2020.

(3) The scope of these regulations is to introduce a

differentiated start of the summer period for Summer fuels solely for

the year 2020, as envisaged by the European Commission Notice on

the application of Article 3 of Directive 98/70/EC of the European

Parliament and of the Council of 13 October 1998 relating to the

quality of petrol and diesel fuels and amending Council Directive 93/

12/EEC, with regard to the maximum vapour pressure for petrol.

In footnote 4 of the First Schedule to the principal Amends the

regulations, the words "and end on 30 September." shall be substituted First

to the principal

by the words "and end on 30 September:" and immediately thereafter regulations.

there shall be added the following new proviso

"Provided that, limitedly for the year 2020, the start of the

summer period shall be taken to start from the 1st of July 2020

and end on 30 September 2020.".
