AUTHORITY FOR TRANSPORT IN MALTA ACT

Valletta Pedestrian Zones (Amendment) Regulations, 2018

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by article 43 of the

Authority for Transport in Malta Act, the Minister for Transport,

Infrastructure and Capital Projects, after consultation with the

Authority for Transport in Malta, made the following regulations

The title of these regulations is the Valletta Pedestrian

Zones (Amendment) Regulations, 2018 and they shall be read and

construed as one with the Valletta Pedestrian Zones Regulations

hereinafter referred to as "the principal regulations".

In regulation 2 of the principal regulations, in the definition

"permit", immediately after the words "Local Council" there shall be

added the words "with the approval of the Authority for Transport in

Regulation 3 of the principal regulations shall be amended

as follows

(a) in paragraph (a) thereof, the words "Triq l-Arcisqof"

shall be substituted by the words "Triq San Kristofru";

(b) in paragraph (c) thereof, the words "Triq l-

Ordinanza" shall be substituted by the words "Pjazza Tritoni";

(c) in paragraph (d) thereof, the word "il-Merkanti" shall

be substituted by the words "San Pawl";

(d) in paragraph (e) thereof, the word "il-Markanti" shall

be substituted by the words "San Pawl" and the word "il-

Merkanti" shall be substituted by the word "id-Dejqa";

(e) in paragraph (f) thereof, the word "l-Ifran" shall be

substituted by the word "id-Dejqa";

(f) in paragraph (g) thereof, the word "l-Ifran" shall be

substituted by the word "il-Merkanti"; and the word "ir-

Repubblika"; shall be substituted by the word "l-Ifran";

(g) in paragraph (h) thereof, the word "ir-Repubblika"

shall be substituted by the word "il-Merkanti"; and the words

"San Pawl" shall be substituted by the word "ir-Repubblika";

(h)

in paragraph (i) thereof, the word "ir-Repubblika"

shall be substituted by the words "San Pawl" and the words "San

Pawl" shall be substituted by the word "Zekka";

(i) immediately after paragraph (i) thereof, there shall be

added the following new paragraph

"(j) that length of Triq l-Ordinanza between Pjazza

Jean de Vallette and Triq ir-Repubblika";

immediately after paragraph (j) thereof, there shall

be added the following

(k)

Pjazza Tritoni;

(l)

Misraħ il-Ħelsien;

(m) Pjazza Jean de Vallette;

(n)

Pjazza Kastilja;

(o)

Misraħ San Ġwann;

(p)

Misraħ l-Assedju l-Kbir;

(q)

Misraħ ir-Repubblika;

(r)

Misraħ San Ġorġ;

(s)

Triq it-Teżor".

Regulation 4 of the principal regulations shall be amended Amends

regulation 4 of

as follows

(a) in sub-regulation (1) thereof, immediately after the

words "said zones" there shall be added the words "and scheduled

in the First Schedule";

(b) in paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (1) thereof,

immediately after the word "vehicles" there shall be added the

words "up to a maximum of 7.5 tonnes"; and

(c) in sub-regulation (2) thereof, immediately after the

words "Local Council" there shall be added the words "with the

approval of the Authority for Transport in Malta".

Regulation 5 of the principal regulations shall be amended

as follows

(a) in sub-regulation (1) thereof, the words "through the

use of a remote control" shall be substituted by the words "by

informing the Local Council in order to make the necessary

arrangements for access to be provided by an official of the

Authority for Transport in Malta";

(b) in sub-regulation (2) thereof, immediately after the

words "Local Council" there shall be added the words "after

having obtained the approval of the Authority for Transport in

Malta"; and

(c) sub-regulation (3) shall be substituted by the

following

"(3) Residents qualifying for a permit shall be issued

with the said permit which, together with the parking disc

and any other document which may be issued for such

purpose, is to be exhibited behind the windscreen".

Regulation 6 of the principal regulations shall be deleted.

Regulation 7 of the principal regulations shall be

renumbered as regulation 6 and immediately after the words "parking

disc" there shall be added the words "or any other document which

serves the same purpose".

Regulation 8 of the principal regulations shall be

renumbered as regulation 7 and sub-regulation (1) thereof, shall be

substituted by the following

"(1) Vehicles qualifying under paragraph (a) of the

proviso to regulation 4(1) shall be allowed to access the

pedestrian zones during the following times and days of the

week

Monday to Saturday from 01.00am to 09.30am

-

Monday and Thursday from 2.30p.m. to

4.30p.m. solely through the routes indicated in

the Second Schedule".

Regulation 9 of the principal regulations shall be re-

numbered as regulation 8.
