Business Hours (Amendment) Regulations, 2017

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by article 17 of the

Trading Licences Act, the Minister responsible for the Economy,

Investment and Small Business, has made the following regulations:-

The title of these regulations is the Business Hours

(Amendment) Regulations, 2017 and these regulations shall be read

and construed as one with the Business Hours Regulations,

hereinafter referred to as "the principal regulations".

Regulation 3 of the principal regulations shall be

substituted by the following

"3.

(1) Unless otherwise provided under the First

Schedule to these regulations, throughout the period from 8

January to 31 October, the normal business hours shall be as

follows

(a) for any commercial activity carried out from

a premises from Monday to Friday (including public

holidays with the exclusion of Good Friday) - from 4.00

a.m. to 7.00 p.m.;

(b) for any commercial activity carried out from

a premises on Saturday (including public holidays) - from

00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.;

(c) for a commercial activity listed in the Second

Schedule and carried out from a premises on Sunday -

from 4.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.".

3. Regulation 4 of the principal regulations shall be

substituted by the following

(c)

item 6 shall be renumbered as item 5;

(d)

in item 5 as re-numbered, the words "and up to

items 7, 8 and 9 shall be renumbered as items 6,7

and 8 respectively;

(f)

immediately after item 8 as renumbered, there shall

be added the following new item 9 as follows

Special opening hours in Malta and Gozo

Commercial premises predominantly selling any of

the following items may open for business on any day of

the week including Sundays and other Public Holidays

between 6.00 a.m. and 11.00 p.m. of the same day

(a) beverages, sweets and tobacco products; or

(b) fish, crustaceans and mollusks; or

(c) watches, clocks and jewellery; or

(d) souvenirs, craft-work and religious articles;

or

(e) books, newspapers, stationery and office

items; or

(f) perfumery items; or

(g) swimming and diving equipment; or

(h) photographic, optical and related precision

items

Provided that this shall apply only in the Tourist

Localities listed hereunder and Gozo

(g)

items 10 and 11 shall be deleted;

5. After the First Schedule of the principal regulations there

shall be added the new Second Schedule as follows

4. L-Iskeda tar-regolamenti prinċipali għandha tiġi emendata

(a)

il-kelma "Skeda" għandha tiġi sostitwita bil-kliem

(b)

il-partita 5 tal-Iskeda għandha tiġi mħassra ;

il-partita 6 għandha tiġi renumerata bħala l-partita

(d)

fil-partita 5 kif ġiet renumerata, il-kliem " u sas-

6.00 p.m. il-Ħadd jew f’xi Festa Pubblika oħra" għandhom jiġu

(e)

il-partiti 7, 8 u 9 għandhom jiġu renumerati bħala l-

partiti 6, 7 u 8 rispettivament;

għandha tiżdied il-partita 9 ġdida li ġejja
