Bye-Laws of 2015 to amend the Bye-Laws of 2013 for the
Selection of Applicants for Admission to the
Bachelor of Science (Honours) – B.Sc. (Hons) - Degree Course
under the auspices of the Faculty of Dental Surgery
IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred upon him by articles 74 (5) and 75 (6) of the
Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated
the following bye-laws made by the Board of the Faculty of Dental Surgery in virtue
of the powers conferred upon it by article 81 (1) (c) of the said Act and which have
been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta as required by article 81 (2)
of the said Act
Citation
These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2015 to amend the
Bye-Laws of 2013 for the Selection of Applicants for Admission to the Bachelor of
Science (Honours) – B.Sc. (Hons) – Degree Course – and shall be read and construed
as one with the Bye-Laws of 2013 for the Selection of Applicants for Admission
to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) – B.Sc. (Hons) – Degree Course – under the
auspices of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, published as Legal Notice 42 of 2013,
hereinafter referred to as “the principal bye-laws”.
Applicability
These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in October
2015 or later.
Amendment to bye-law 4 of the principal bye-laws
For paragraph (1) of bye-law 4 of the principal bye-laws there shall be
substituted the following
“4. (1) Applicants for the Dental Hygiene area of study who satisfy the
general and special course requirements as laid down in the bye-laws for the course
shall be selected from amongst all eligible applicants according to the following
categories, listed in order of preference
B
1 st Category
those with grades ‘A’ to ‘E’ in Biology at Advanced Level
2 nd Category
those with a grade ‘A’ in Biology at Intermediate Level
3 rd Category
those with a grade ‘B’ in Biology at Intermediate Level
4 th Category
those with a grade ‘C’ in Biology at Intermediate Level.”
Amendment to bye-law 5 of the principal bye-laws
For paragraph (1) of bye-law 5 of the principal bye-laws there shall be
substituted the following
“5. (1) Applicants for the Dental Technology area of study who satisfy the
general and special course requirements as laid down in the bye-laws for the course
shall be selected from amongst all eligible applicants according to the following
categories, listed in order of preference
1st Category
those with grades ‘A’ to ‘E’ in Chemistry at Advanced Level
2nd Category
those with a grade ‘A’ in Chemistry at Intermediate Level
3rd Category
those with a grade ‘B’ in Chemistry at Intermediate Level
4th Category
those with a grade C’ in Chemistry at Intermediate Level.”
Amendment to bye-law 7 of the principal bye-laws
For bye-law 7 of the principal bye-laws there shall be substituted the
following
“7. If the number of eligible applicants falling in any category of applicants
eligible to be admitted in terms of the provisions of these bye-laws is such that the
total number of applicants to be admitted exceeds the number of places established
by Senate the eligible applicants in that category shall be interviewed by the Faculty
Admissions Committee appointed by the Board in order to fill the remaining place/s.
The Faculty Admissions Committee shall take into consideration the applicants’
aptitude, motivation and communication skills. The Committee, which may be
assisted by any experts it deems necessary when conducting the selection interviews,
shall submit a detailed report including its final recommendation regarding the
selection of the applicants to the University Admissions Board.”
