    IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred upon him by articles 74 (5) and 75
  10. 9
    (6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has
  11. 10
    promulgated the following bye-laws made by the Board of the EDRC in virtue of the
  12. 11
    powers conferred upon it by article 5 (b) (v) of the Statute for the Centre, which bye-
  13. 12
    laws have been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta

    Citation
  15. Reg. 1 — under the auspices of the European Documentation and Research Centre

    These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2011 to amend the Bye-
  17. 2
    Laws of 2009 in terms of the Doctor of Philosophy - Ph.D. - Degree Regulations,
  18. 3
    2008 for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy and shall be read and construed as one
  19. 4
    with the Bye-Laws of 2009 in terms of the Doctor of Philosophy - Ph.D. - Degree
  20. 5
    Regulations, 2008 for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy - under the auspices of
  21. 6
    the European Documentation and Research Centre, published as Legal Notice 311 of
  22. 7
    2009, ­hereinafter referred to as “the principal bye-laws”.

    Applicability
  24. Reg. 2 — under the auspices of the European Documentation and Research Centre
  25. 1
    These bye-laws shall apply from 6th May, 2011 onwards.

    Amendment to bye-law 5 of the principal bye-laws
  27. Reg. 3 — under the auspices of the European Documentation and Research Centre
  28. 1
    For bye-law 5 of the principal bye-laws there shall be substituted the
  29. 2
    following

    “Centre Doctoral Committee
  31. Reg. 5 — under the auspices of the European Documentation and Research Centre
  32. 1
    The Board shall recommend to Senate the appointment of the Centre
  33. 2
    Doctoral Committee composed as follows
  34. 3
    The Director of the Centre as Chairman
  35. 4
    Four senior academic members of staff, normally heads of department, at least
  36. 5
    one of whom shall be from another faculty, institute or centre, provided that
  37. 6
    when the Director of the Centre is being proposed as Principal Supervisor,
  38. 7
    co-supervisor or adviser, he cannot chair the meeting.”
