Sweeteners for Use in Foodstuffs (Amendment) Regulations,

IN exercise of the powers conferred by article 10 of the Food

Safety Act, the Minister for Health, the Elderly and Community

Care, has made the following regulations:-

(1) The title of these regulations is the Sweeteners

for Use in Foodstuffs (Amendment) Regulations, 2011, and they

shall be read and construed as one with the Sweeteners for Use

in Foodstuffs Regulations, 2005, hereinafter referred to as “the

principal regulations”.

(2) These regulations shall be deemed to have come

into force on the 31st March 2011.

Regulations 3 and 4 implement the provisions of

Commission Directive 2010/37/EU of 17 June 2010 amending

Directive 2008/60/EC laying down specific purity criteria on

sweeteners for use in foodstuffs.

For paragraph (b) of regulation 1.3 of the principal

regulations there shall be substituted the following:-

“(b) Commission Directive 2008/60/EC laying down

specific purity criteria concerning sweeteners for use in

foodstuffs as amended by Commission Directive 2010/37/

EU.”.

In regulation 7.1 of the principal regulations, for the

words “European Community Directive 95/31/EC, as amended”,

there shall be substituted the words “Commission Directive

2008/60/EC, as amended by Commission Directive 2010/37/EU.”.
