Passport (Amendment) Regulations, 2011

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by article 9 of the

Passports Ordinance, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and

Communications, has made the following regulations

The title of these regulations is the Passport (Amendment)

Regulations 2011 and they shall be read and construed as one with

the Passport Regulations, 1993 hereinafter referred to as “the

principal regulations”.

For sub-regulation (3) of regulation 4 of the principal Amends regulation

regulations, there shall be substituted the following

“(3) The passport officer may at his discretion not

require the recommender’s declaration where biometric data

has been provided.”.

Sub-regulation (1) of regulation 5 of the principal

regulations shall be amended as follows

(a) The words “together with the photographs” shall

be substituted by the words “together with the photographs,

biometric data”;

(b) The words “The photographs and documents” shall

be substituted by the words “The photographs, biometric data

and documents”; and

(c) The words “with the passport officer.” shall be

substituted by the words “with the Passport Office:” and

immediately thereafter there shall be added the following

proviso

“Every person applying for a passport shall have

his photograph and biometric data taken by an authorised

officer.”

Regulation 6 of the principal regulations shall be deleted

and regulations 7 to 13 thereof shall be renumbered as regulations

6 to 12 respectively.

In regulation 7 as renumbered of the principal regulations,

sub-regulation (2) thereof shall be deleted and sub-regulation (3)

shall be re-numbered as sub-regulation (2).

Regulation 8 as renumbered of the principal regulations

shall be amended as follows

(a) in sub-regulation (1) thereof, the words “regulation

7” shall be substituted by the words “regulation 6”; and

(b) in sub-regulation (4), the words “waive the

requirements of the production”, shall be substituted by

the words “waive the requirements of biometric data, the

production”.
