Spirit Drinks Regulations, 2010

IN exercise of the powers conferred by article 38 of the Product

Safety Act, the Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment

has, on the advice of the Malta Standards Authority, made the

following regulations:-

The title of these regulations is the Spirit Drinks

Regulations, 2010.

These regulations implement the provisions of Regulation

(EC) No 110/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on

the definition, description, presentation, labelling and the protection

of geographical indications of spirit drinks and repealing Council

Regulation (EEC) No 1576/89.

The Malta Standards Authority is hereby designated as the

responsible national authority referred to in Regulation (EC) No 110/

2008:-

(a)

for receiving any application for the registration of

geographical indications as per Article 17 of Regulation (EC)

No 110/2008; and

(b)

with respect to Article 24(1) of Regulation (EC) No

110/2008, for control in respect of the obligations established

by Regulation (EC) No 110/2008 in accordance with Regulation

(EC) No 882/2004.
