Protection of Maternity (Employment) (Amendment)

Regulations, 2007

IN exercise of the powers conferred by articles 10 and 48(2) of the

Employment and Industrial Relations Act, the Minister of Education,

Youth and Employment has made the following regulations>–

(1) The title of these regulations is the Protection of Maternity

(Employment) (Amendment) Regulations, 2007 and they shall be read

and construed as one with the Protection of Maternity (Employment)

Regulations, 2003, hereinafter referred to as “the principal regulations”.

(2) These regulations shall come into force on the 1 st

January, 2008.

In regulation 7 of the principal regulations for the words

“during the first thirteen weeks of such leave, with the fourteenth week

being unpaid” there shall be substituted the words “and this shall apply

to all employees who are on maternity leave on or after 1 st January

2008, whether such maternity leave commenced before 1 st January 2008

or not”.
