Polling @estiiction of Access) Regulations, l99E

IN exercise ofthe powers conferred by section 93 ofthe Code of

Police Laws, and by section l7 of the Traffic Regulafion Ordinance,

the C-ommissioner of Police, with the advice of the Traffic Contbl Board.

has made the following regulations:-

These regulations may be cited as the polling @estriction of

Access) Regulations, 1998, and shall come into force on the 5th

September, 1998.

In these regulations , unless the context otherwise requires -

"Chief Electoral Commissioner" includes any officer of the

Electoral Commissioner's Office duly authorised by the Chief

Electoral Commissioner to act on his behalf

"Commissioner of Police" includes any officer of the Malta

Police Force duly authorised by the Commissioner of police to act

on his behalf;

"poll" means the poll to be held on the 5th September, l99g

for the election of memben of the House of Representatives ;

"polling place" means a place where the poll is to be held and

which is listed in the Schedule published by the Chief Eleaoral

Commissioner in the Govemrirent Gazette on the 4th August, l99g;

"vehicle" means any vehicle, whether propelled by

mechanical power or otherwise, and any animaldrawn vehicle.

_ 3. Unless authorised by the Commissioner of police or by the

ChiefElectoral Commissioner, no vehicle shall have access to any sueer

leading to the Counting Hall, Ta' Qali, or to any polling place and no

vehicle shall go beyond a prohibitory sign with the words .TGHADDIX

NO ENTRY" or bypass any barrier or road block wherever pur up

Saving the provisions of subsection (2) of section 64 of the

General Elections Act , I 99 I , the Commissioner of Police may prohibit

any person from loitering in the vicinity of the approaches to the

Counting Hall, Ta' Qali, or of any polling place at any point beyond a

prohibitory sign with the words "TGHADDIX

NO ENTRY", a

-

barrier or road block wherever put up by the Police at any spot in the

vicinity of the said Counting Hall or polling places as frorn 5.00 a.m.

on Saturday, 5th September, 1998 until

-

(a) the publication of the final result of the poll , in the case

of the Counting Hall, Ta' Qali, and

(b) 2.00 am. on Sunday, 6th September, 1998, in the case

of any polling place.

E. These regulations shall expire on the publication of the final

result of the poll, but such expiration shall not affect anything done or

omimed to be done, or any proceedings taken or to be taken thereunder.
