Bachelor of Dental Surgery - B.Ch.D. - Degree Course Regulations, 1998

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon hirn by sections

30(5) and 3l (6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of

the University of Malta has promulgated the following regulations

made bv the Senate of the University of Malta by virtue of the powers

conferred upon it bv sections 3l and 35 of the said Act

Citation and interpretation

l. (l)

These regulations may be cited as the Bachelor of Dental

Surgerv - B.Ctr.D. - Degree Course Regulations, 1998.

(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -

"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Dental Surgery;

"the Course" means the Course leading to the Degree; ancl

"the Degree" rneans the Degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery -

B.Ch.D.

Applikabilita'

These regulations shall be applicable to courses starting in

October I998 or later'.

Eligibility for Degree

To be eligible for the award of the Degree, students must

(a) be registered as regular students in the Course in terms of the

Admission Regulations of the University;

(b) satisfv the Special Course Recluirements in accordance with

regulation {;

(r') t'ornplete' the course of studies, qualify in the examinations and

satisfv anv otlrer requil'enrellts as prescribed in these regulations; and

(.1) satisfy anv other requirernents prescribed in anv other relevant

statutes, r'egulations and bvelaws of the Universitv.

Admission and Special Course Requirements

(l)

Senate, on the advice of the Board, mav limit the number of

sttrdents that rnav be adrnitted to the Course. Senate shall make regulations

fol tlrc sele<'tion of applicarrts for admission.

(2) To applv firr adrnission to the Course candidates must, besides

satisfiirrg tlrc requilenlents fol admission as regular students in terms of the

Adrnission Regulations, satisfv the following Special Course Requirements

(a) I)asses at Adranced Level obtained at Grade C or better in

Course Duration

(5) Stuclents wtro fail in any Progress Test in tlre supplr)rr)cntary

Examinations during the Course

( I ) Examinations shall be held as follr-rws

(2) Before being allowed to sit for any of the examinations

specifiecl in paragraptr (l) of ttris regulation, students must present to the

Dean a certificate, signed bv the heads of clepartment concelnecl, strowing

that thev have completed satisfactorilv the schedule of practical and clinical

work prescribed for the year.

The First and Second B.Ch.D. Examinations

(l) The First B.Ch.D. Examination shall be trelcl inJune at the end

of the second year of the Course and a supplernentary session shall be held in

September.

(2) Tlre Ser'<;rrcl B.Ch.D. Exarnination shall be trelcl irrJune at the

end of the third vear of the Course and a supplernentarv session shall be treld

l'he Final B.Ch.D. Examination

(l) Ttre Final B.Ch.D. Examination shall be held inJune ar the

(4) Stuclents may also be required to take a uiva voce ex rnination

in these sub-jecs.

Result

(l ) The narnes of students who have passed in eactr subject of the

F'inal B.Ch.D. Exarnination shall be published in a list in alptrabetical order'

according to the fbllowing grades in descending order of rnerit A, B, C ancl

D.

(2) The names of studens who have passed the Final B.Ch.D.

Examination at the fil'st session shall be published in another list in

alphabetir:al order in the following two categories

Passed with Distinction

Passed.

Exceptional performance in a subject shall be indicated on the list.

(3) The result shall take into account the performance of the

students throughout the Course.

(4) The names of studens who are succjessful in the exarnination

sessions as prescribed in paragraph (2) of regulation l0 strall be publistrecl in

a simple Pass List in alptrabetical order.

Progress

(1) A list shall also be published indicating the narnes of studens

u'tro are referred in anv subject/s as well as the subject/s in which they have

been refen'ed.

(2) Studens rvho are referred in a subject,/s in the Final B.Ch.D.

Examination mav sit for the supplernentiirv session in that sub,ject/s as

plescribecl in paraeraptr (2) of regulation 10. If successful, their names shall

be incluclecl in the list of those who have passed the Final B.Ch.D.

Examination. If thev fail, they shall be deemed to have failed the Final

B.Ch.D. Examination as a whole.
