Postgraduate Certiricate in Education (Amendment)

Regulations, 1997

IN e)(ercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30(5)

and 31(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 321), the Chancellor of the

Uni\'ersityof Malta has promulgated the follow ing regulations made

by the Senate of the University of Malta by virtue of the powersconferred

upon it by sections 31 and 35 of the said Act

These regulations may be cited as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education

(Amendment) Regulations, 1991 and shall be read and construed a~ one with the

Regnlations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education, 1991 , hereinafter referred

( 0 as ''the principal regulations" .

These regulations shall be applicable to courses stan ing in October, 1992 or

later.

Am ~ udmeut of regulation 3 of the principal regulations

3 . For purngroph 3.4 of regulation 3 of the principal regulations there shall be

substi tuted the following

"3.4 The Faculty Board may stipulate which subject in the Pedagogy and

Curriculum SlUdies area and which siudy un its a candidate shalt take in order to

complete the appropriate course prognl.mme. In order 10 follow a COUrg in a

specific methodology area a candidate shall be required to have a mi nimum of 18

credits or equivalent in the relevant area of slUdy."

For su b-paragraph (a) of paragraph 4.1 of regulation 4 of the principal

regulations there shall be substituted the following

"'(a) (i)

obtain a minimum of24 credits from SlUdy areas 3.2(a) and 32(b);

(ii) ten out of 14 credits must be obtained from Study area 3.2 (a).

Six of these credits must be obtained by means of a Final Examination

consisting of 3 papers each with 2 credits, respectively in Philosophy of

Education, Sociology of Education and Educational Psychology;

(ii i) six out of8 credits must be obtained from StUdy area 3.2(b). Two

of these credits must be obtained by means of a Final Examination paper in

the teaching methodology of that area ."
