IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30(5)

and 31(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327). the Chancellor of the

Universi ty of Malta has promulgated the following regulations made

by the Senate orlile University of Malta by virtue of the powers conferred

upon it by sections 31 and 35 ofttle said Act

C itation

These regulations may be ci!ed as the Bachelorof Arts in Legal and Humanistic

Studies - BA. Leg. & Hum . St. - Degree Course (Amendment) Regu lations, 1997

and shall be read and construed as one with the Bachelor of Arts in Legal and Human istic

Studi es - B .A . Leg. & Hum. St. - Degree Course Regulations, 1995, hereinafter

referred to as " the principal regulations",

Applica bility

These regulations shall be applicable to courses starting in October 1996 or

later.

Amendment of regul ation 6 of the principal regulations

For sub-paragraph (I ) of Regulation 6 of the principal regulations there shall

be substituted the followi ng

( I) Part One wi ll extend over the fi rst year of the Course. To complete Part

One of the course and proceed to Part Two a candidate shal l obtain a minimum of

22 credits, of which at least 14 must be in the Law area and at least 8 shall be in

the other area of study chosen, and pass an end of year examination in the Law

Amendment of regulation 12 of the principal r egulations

Re-number Regulation 12 ofthe principal regulations as Regulation 12 ( \) .

.5. 1bere shall be added the followi ng regulations afte r Regulation 12 (I) of the

principal regulations

(2) $aving the provisions of Regulation 12 ( I) candidates who h:we obtained

the Degree may register subsequently for the Diploma of Legal Procurator.

(3) 1be programme of snKi ies of candidates registered under Regulation

12 (2) shall extend over one year and candidates shall be required 10 register for a

minimu m of 15 and a maxi mum of 25 credits in law as indicated by the Faculty

Board, with particular reference to those crtdils deal ing wilh the law o f procedure.

(4) A candidate registered under Regulation 12 (2) shall be admitted to the

diploma only if

(a) he o bta ins the minimum number of c redits as specified In

Regulation 12 (3): and

(b) he satisfies a final examination consisting of one paper and a viva

~'OCt' examination in each of the subjects in the law area of st udy covered

during the year.

There shall be added the fol1owing regulation 14 after regulation 13 of the

principal regulations

Transitory Provision

Regulations 12 (2), 12 (3) and 12 (4) shall apply to all candidates

registering for the diploma as from the 1st October 1996.
