In exercise o f the powers conferred upon him by sections 30 (5)

and 31 (6) of the Education Act (cap. 327). the Chanccllor of the

University of Mal ta has promulgated the following regulations mooe

by the Senateoflhe Un iversity of Malta by virtlJCoflne powers conferred

upon it by sections 3 1 and 35 of the said Act

Citation a nd Interpretalion

I . ( I ) These regulations may be cited as the Master of Arts in Creativity and

Innovation - M.A . - De~ Course Regulations, 1997.

In these regulations. unl ess the context otherwise requires -

hthe Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies for the Degree appo inted

by Senate 10 implement these regulations. on the recommendation of the Boan1 of

"the Course" means the course of studies and TeSe8leh, kading to the De~

''the De~" means the Degree of Master of Arts in Creativity and InnO\'31ion

Board or Studies

2 . The administnl.tion of the Course shall be en trusted to a Board of Studies

appointed by Senate in tenns of the Board of Studies Regulations of the Uni\·ersity.

These regulations shall apply to courses starting in October 1996 or Ialer.

Qualincations for Admission

4 . ( I) Subject to the provisions of paragraph (2) of this regulation, 10 be

registered in the Course, studenlS must

(a) be in possession of a university deg ree with Firsl or Second Class

Honours in any re lated SUbject approved by the Board of Studies for this purpose;

(b) be in possession of a professional qualification recognized by the

Uni versity of Mal ta for the purpose of admittance to the Course together with a

mi nimum of three years work experie nce at senior level .

(2) In exceptional cases students who have other qualificati ons together

with extensive work Of lICademic experience which renders them suitable studenlS for

the COUTSC may be admined with the approval of Senate acti ng on the advice of the

Board of Studi es .

Rl'gistnllion

A student must register OfI the prescribed form within the time specified by

the Office of the Registrar.

Cou rse DuratKJIl

Thedu rat ion of the Cou rse shall be of three semesters offull -time st udy_

( I)

(2) In exce pt ional circumstances a student may be allowed by the Board of

stud ies to complete the Course wi th in a maximum period of twenty four months afte r

registrat ion.

(3) Students may. with the perm ission of the Board of Studies. register as

part-time students. Each period of part-time study shall be equillalentto half the same

period o f full-time study.

Course uf Sludies

1. The CouTSC shall cOflsist of three parts: Part Ofle . Pan Two and Pan Three as

follows

(a) Part Ofle shall extend over one academic semester. It shall consist of

st udy. units for which not less than ten credits shal l be assigned. A catal ogue of

study- unilS and the credits assigned to each study-unit shall be published before

the stan of the fi rsl semester. Some study-units may be indicated as compulsory

and others as optiona l. 1be study-u nits may in\'oh'e supervised practical work .

Students shall be considered to have successfully completed Pan One if they

obtain nO{ less than ten credits including credits for compulsory units.

(b) Pan Two shall e"tend over one acade mic semester. It shall consist of

study -units conSisting entirely of research and pracrical work. Supervisors shall

be allocated to students in (his respect. A minimum of twel\'e stud y-units should

be completed by each student in Pan Two.

(c) Pan Three shall extend over one academic semester and shall consist

of a supervised research project or a dissel1:l\ion on a subject appro\,ed by the

Board of Studies.

Vnlutazzjoni kontinwa

(I ) SlUdentS shall be assessed in the study-units covered in acC'Ofdantt with

the criteria eslablished by the Board of Studics.

(2) The following grades shall be used in the assign me", of credilS: A, B , C, D

and F, in descendi ng Ortler of meri t . with F indicating failufC .

(3) A student who rwls in a study-unit may be allowed to be re-assessed OJl(;C .

In the case ofre-assessment . the maJL:iffiUm grade a student can obtain is grade D.

Attendance

9 . A student who,afterdue warning given in writing. per.;istently fails to attend

leclUfCS and/or tu torials or otherwise does nOi carry o ut his academic du ties without

justification may be debarred by Senate, following a recommendation of the Board of

Studies. from sitting for any or all of the examinations.

Examinations

10 . ( I) At the end of Part Two, after having successfully compleled both Part

One and Part Two of the course. a siudent shall be required to sit for the Final Written

Examination . This shall consist oflwo papers. In order 10 &alisfy the Final Written

Examination requirement the slU(\ent must obtain a pass grade in each of the twO

papers.

(2) Students who fail the Final Wriuen Examinalion shall be al lowed to si t

for a Supplementary Examination in the paper/s which they fail on a dale 10 be decided

by the Board of Studies afterthe publication of the results. Studentscan fC-sillhe Final

Wrinen Examination onl y once and the m81imum grade obtained in the re-si!

examination sholl be Grade D. Written Supplementary Examination shall be held not

II . ( I) During Pan Three of the Course students shall be required to complete

a reseBrch project or a disscna!ion.

(2) A supervisorshall be appoin ted by the Board of Studies fort very project

or dissenation. The supervisor shall ~uire tht student to report to him as orten as he

deems necessary and shall report to the Board or Studies B student whose progress he

coos ide~ unsatisractory.

(3) Students mUSI submit the proposed title and an outline o f the project or

dissenation for approva l by the Board of Studies by flO( later than the tOO or Part Two

of the Course.

(4) The project or the d issertation must satisfy the Board of Studies as

regards fonnat and prese ntation.

(05) The project ordissenation sha ll be 20.000 to 2.5.000 words in length

(e xcluding headi ngs. tables. references and appendices). The Board of Stud ies may

extend the length of the project ordissertation on the recommendation of the supervisor.

(6) The project Of the dissertation must be submitted in its fi nal foml not

later than the eightoenth mOli th from the commencement o f the Course. unless an

c xtension is gr.lntcd by the Boo rd of Studies.
