Idenllty Cards (Issue lind Validity) Regulations, 1996

IN exercise orlne powers conferred by section 13 o flhe Identity

Card Act, the Prime Minister has made the following regulations:-

I . These regulations may be cited a.~ the Identity Cards (Issue

and Validity) Regulations, 1996.

Forthc purposes oflhcse regulations, the lenn "listed locality"

means II locality listed in Locality A, Locality B or Locality C as

appearing in the Schedule to these reguhllions. and the area of suc h

locality shall be such area as is defined for each particular locality in

the Local Councils Act. 1993.

(I) Notwithstanding the specific dates shown on each

identity card issued during the years 1995 and 1996 indicating that the

validity thereof expires on II particular date during the years 2000,

200 I and 2002, all such identity cards shall expire as shown hereunder

acCOrding to the listed locality where the holder resides as appearing

in the Schedule to these regulations

(a) Locality A, on the day and month indicated on the

card but in the year 2000; and

(b ) Locality B, on the day and month indicated on the

card but in the year 200 I: and

(c) Locality C, on the day and month indicated on th e

Card but in the year 2002,

and after the years 2000, 2001 and 2002, as the case may be, every

six years thereafter in such manner that all the identity cards of

residents in any particular locality shall always expire during the

same year.

(2) N()(withstanding the provisions of paragraph ( I) orthis

regulation, where an identity card hils been issued in respect of _

(a) a penon under the age of sixteen years, such ide ntity

card shall cease to be valid upon the sixteenth binhday of the

holder thereof; and

(b) a person under the age of eighteen years, such identity

card shall cease to be valid upon the eighteenth binlKlay o f the

holde r thereof.
