IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30(.5)

and 3 1(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the Uni·

"crsiIY of Malia has promulgated the foUowing regulations made by

the Senate of the University of Mal ta by virtue of the powers conferred

upon it by sections 31 and 35 o f the said Act

Applicability

2 . These regulations shall apply to courses staning in October. 1994 or later.

QlIaUnOitions for Admissio n

3_ ( I) Candi dates for admission to the Coorse shall be holde", of a unive",ity

degree or a professional qualification recogn ised by the Univcrsity of Mal ta for the

purpose lind who ha\-c a minimu m of four years work cllperienee at se nior Icvel in an

area of responsibility_

(2) Before being admitted to registcr for the Coorse all applicants must be

approved by the Faculty Board on the recommendation of tile Boord of Studi es for the

Course as possessi ng the lraining. knowlcdge. capabilities and clIperience required for

pursui ng the Course with profit.

It- Tul tal-Kon

( I) The durotion of the Course shall be three semesters of full-time studies

or thei r equivale nt in pan-lime studies.

(2) Any period spent in pan-timc study shall be equivalent 10 half the period

required for full-time study.

(3) A candidate may be allowed by the Faculty Board 10 complete the

Course wi thin 30 months of full-time study or 48 mon ths of part-lime study after

regisU'ation .

Course of studies

5 . ( I) The Course shall be divided in to two pans, Pan One and Pan Two. It

shall consist of core study-units to which not less than 25 credjl~ shall be assigned,

elective study -u nits lind II dissertation .

6 . (I)

Part One shall extend over the first two semesters of the Course and

shall consist of study-units in the following core areas of studies

(a)

Accounting and Finance

(b)

Quantitative Methods and Management Information Systems

(c) M anagerial Economics . Ope rations M anageme nt and Project

Management

Human Resources Management and OrganiUltional Behaviour

(d)

(e)

Markcting. Strategic Managemen t and Strategic Change .

(2) To complete Pan One of the Course and proceed to Pan Two candidates

must obtain a min imum of 25 credits and pass a wri tten examination in each area of

(3) Candidates who fail in not more than two papers of the written

examinations shall be allowed to si t for a supplementary examination session in the

failed areals of study. In the supplementary session the candidate shall be graded either

o or Fail . Candidates who fai l in three or more papers at the first examination session

or fail in any paper in the supplementary session shall not be allowed to proceed to Pan

Two of the Course.

(I) Part Two shall normally extend ove r the last semester of the Course

during which candidates shall be required to obtain six credits in the electi ve areas of

st udy and to submit a dissertalion of not less than 10.000 words and not more than

The choice of the elective areas of study must be approved by the Board

of Studies of the Course.

Candidates shall submi t the sUbject of the dissertation for the approva l

of th e Faculty Boord at least two months before the end of Pan One of the Course.

The Faculty Board shall . after approval of the subject of the dissertation,

a tutor to direct and supervise the work of the candidate; and

(b) a Board of Ellaminers composed of three persons to examine the

dissertation.

The dissertation mus t be submitted for examination by the end of the

third semester of the Course unless the candidate is given special pennission to submit

it at a later date under regulation 4 of these regu lations.

8. (I) The dissertation. examinati on and credits are graded in descending order

of merit: A. B. C. D and F. where F indicates Fail.

(2) A candidate who fails to obtain a credit for a study-unit may be al lowed

to De re-tested only once. In the reassess ment. the candidates credit shall De graded

9. (I) The final result of each candidate shall take into account his perfomlance

at the wriuen examination. the dissertation and the study-units.

(2) Successful candidates shall qualify for the Degree and the ir names shall

be published in alphabet ical order classified as follows
