Telephone Service (Amendment) (No. 6) Regulations, 1996

IN exercise ohhe powen conferred by section 37 of the Telemalta

Corporation Act. the Board. with the approval of the Minister for

Transpon, Communications and Technology and with the concurrence

of the Minister of Finance , has made the following regulations:-

(I) 1bese regulations may becited as the Tele phone Service Ciuliaol nI

(Amendment) (No. 6) Regulations, 1996, andshall be read andconstrued - - . -.

as one with the Telephone Service Regulations, 1972 , herei nafter WU JoIl97l:.

referred to as .. the principal regulations" .

(2) 1bese regulations shall be deemed to have come into

force as follows:-

regulations 2 and 3 on the day of their publication, and

35 of the principal regulations there shall be substituted the following : J5 oIlho

that Telemalla Corporation charges local calls per

registered pulse and automatic overseas calls by the second, that

the pulse frequency in case of local calls, and the charging rates in

case of automatic overseas calls, may vary in consideration of the

destination of the call and the lime of the day during which such

call is effected , and that for further informatio n the user of the

installatio n may dial 190 and refer to the operator enquiry service

provided by Telemalta Corporation; and".

For item I of the Second Schedule 10 the principal regulations

there shall be substituted the following

Provided that in the case of an exchange line qualifying for

the residence rate of rental , where the subscriber proves to the

satisfaction ofthe Chainnan that be is an elderly person in receipt

of social assistance and in possession of the Pink Card issued by

the Depanment of Social Security. the rental rate chargeable per

annum in respect of such exchange line installed at subscriber"

main residence shall be Lm5. 22 , 0 instead of the rental rate

indicated at paragraph (b) above for as long as the subscriber

continues to satisfy all mentioned conditions ....

S. For the purposes of the Value Added Tax Act , 1994, the

charges specified in these regulations shall not bedeemed lObe inclusive

of value added tax payable under the said Act . Value added tax shall be

billed over and above the said charges. as applicable.
