Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Regula tions, 1.995

IN exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 o (the Traffic

Regulation Ordinance, and by section 27 of the Public Transport

Authority Act. the Commissioner of Police, with the adv ice of the

Traffic Control Board, and the Chairman of the Public Transport

Authority. with the consent of t he Minis ter fo r T ransport,

Communications and Tec hnology, have made the following

regulations: -

I. These regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles 0tai00I.

(Amendment) Regulations, 1995, and shall be read and construed as

one with the Motor Vehicles Regulation s, 1994, hereinafter referred O}l III

to as "the principal regulations" .

2 . Regulat io n 95 of the prin cipal regulation s shall be

renumbered as paragraph ( I) thereof,and immediately thereafter there

shall be added the following new parngrnph

"(2) (a) Every motor vehicle imported into Malta on Of

after the IsI August, 1995 shall be filted with seat belts in

lhe fronl of the vehicle as approved by the Commissioner

of Police,

(b)

For the purposes of thi s paragraph -

"front of the vehicle" means the area between the

dri ver's seat and the forward facing seat alongside it

and the windscreen of the vehicle;

"motor vehicle" is limited 10 a private car or any

other vehicle intended to be used as a self1irive motor

vehicle, taxicar, motor vehicle for hire, invalid carriage

or motor minibus. as defined in regulation 2 of these

regulations, when suc h a vehicle is designed for use

on the road, has at least four wheels and a maximum

dcsigned speed exceeding 25 kilometres per hour; and
