Local CouncUs (Strret Naming) Regulations, 1995

IN exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph (0 of subsection

(I) of section 33 and by section 72 of the Local Coun<:ils Act, 1993, the

Prime Minister has made the followin g regu]ations:-

These regulations may be cited as the Local Councils (Street

Naming) Regulations, 1995.

The naming or renaming of streets, other than arterial and

diSITibutor roads determined by the Structure Plan as specified in

sl.lb~tion (2) of section 33 of the Local Councils Act, 1993, shall take

place after the Local Council of that locality submits its recommendation

to the Minister responsible for the Police who shall, prior to directi ng

the alteration of the name of any street or giving or approving a name to

a new street in (enns of section 22 of the Code of Police Laws, refer

such recommendation to the appropriate Street Naming Committee for

its advice.

3, The naming or renaming of anerial and distributor roads

detennined by the Structure Plan, national monuments, national parks

or gardens, industria! estates, ports, airports and OIher national terri tories,

establishments, buildings and items listed in the Foun h Schedule to the

Local Councils Act, !993. and as specified in subsection (2) of section

33 of tile same Act. shaJl bedirected by the Minister responsible for the

Police in tenns of section 22 of the Code of Police Laws, who shall act

on the recommendation of the appropriate Street Naming Commillee

after such commillee consul ts all the Local Councils of the localities

bordering on the area 10 be so named .

(\) A Local Council or a Street Naming Committee, as the

case may be, shall not submit a recommendation for the alteration of

the name of any 5treCt within any locality orof any road orarea specified

in regulation 3 of these regulations unless a valid reason for such change

subsists.

The naming or renaming of streets, roads and any other

specified area after persons shall not take place prior to the passing of

five years from lheir decease.
