LN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30 (5)

and 3 1(6) o f the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor o f the

University of Malla has promulgated the following statute made by the

Council o f the University of Malta by vinue of the powers conferred

upon it by sections 28 (h), 3 1 (2) and 33 (c) of the said Act

Citation

I. This SlalUte may be cited as the Unh'ersity Ooze Cen tre Statute,

Establish men t of Centre

There is hereby established, the Gaze Centre of the Uni versi ty of Malta,

hereinafter referred to as the "Centre",

Alms of Centre

3,

The aims of the Cen tre shal l be

(a) to assist in the logistical and si milar aspects of degree. diploma or

ccnificate courses which the Universi ty may from time to time Ofganize in Gozo

(b)

to organize confe rences, seminars and si milar activities in Oow

(c)

to promote research in Gozitan affairs

(d) to develop links wi th Gozitan organisations in order to Ofganise joint

activities with them;

(e)

to carry out other activities ancillary or conducive to the above aims.

4 . The Centre shall be governed by a Board composed as follows

A person appointed by the Council of the University;

Four persons appointed by Senate;

A member appointed by the Minister for Gaze;

A student elected by and from students following a degree or

diploma course held at the Centre;

The Regi strar or hi s delegate to act as Secretary of the Board;

The Finance Officer or his delegate to act as Treasurer of the

Board;

The DirectorGeneral of the Foundation for International Studies

or his delegate.

Functions of the Board

Fun1jonijiet tal-Hord

The function s of the Board shall be the following

(a)

to detennine the policy of the Centre with regard to the attainment o f

its aims lis ted in section 3 of this statute;

(b) 10 submit an annual budget for approval by Council and to oversee the

financial admini stration of the Centre;

(c) to make recommendations to Senate on the introduction of certificate,

diploma and degree courses in Gozo. and to propose to the Faculty concerned

regUlations and bye-laws for the running of these courses;

(d) to propose to the Faculty concerned the appointment of members to

serve on the board of studies and the appointment of ea.ortiinators of courses,

provided that the Board may itself appoint co-ordi nators of courses and of other

undertakings of the Centre that do not lead to the award of a degree or diploma;

(e) to appoint non -academic members of staff to established posts but only

for periods within the year for which the estimates have been approved.

Meetings of the Board

The Governing Board shall meet at least three times a year and the rules of

procedureofits meetings s hall be drawn up by the Board itself. provided that decisions

relating to financial matters s hall be in line with the annual budget of the Centre.

T he Director of th e Ce ntre

The Directo r s hall be responsible for the day to day admin istration of the

Centre according to the policy established by the Board, the drawing up of the annual

Budget and the financial statement and report of the ac tivi ties of the Centre for

presentation (0 the Council of the Universi ty. lbe Finance Officer of th e Univel1iity

shal l be the Treasurer of the Centre.

Amendments to this statute may be proposed by the Governing Board for the

approval of the Council of the University.
