Statute I 18 - Foundation Studies Centre Statute

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30 (5)

and 3 1 (6) tile Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the Un i-

versity of Malta has promulgated the fo llowing statute made by the

Council of the University of Malta by virtue of the powers conferred

upon it by sections 28(h). 31(2) and 33(c) ofthc: saki Act

I . This statute may be cited as the Foundation Studies Cenlre Statute .

There is hereby establ ished the Foundation Stud ies Ce ntre a Cthe University

of Malta. hereinafter referred to as ·'the Centre",

The aims of the Centre shall be

(a) 10 provide students wi th a general introd uction to University st udies

incl uding means and methods of research;

to carry out and organise activities ancillary or cond ucive to the above

The Centre shall be governed by a Board composed as follow s

1bc Rector or his depUly

Vice-Chairman: The Co-ordinator of the Centre;

A person appointed by the Council of the University

Three persons appointed by Senate;

A student nominated by the Kunsill Srudenti Uni versitarji

A student elected by and from the students taking the Foun-

dation Course

1bc Registrar or his delegate to act as Secretary of the

Board .

The function s of the Board shall be the following

(a) to determine the policy of the Centre with regard 10 the attainment of

the aims of the Centre as listed in section 3 of Ihis statute;

(b) to submit an 8n1lUaJ budget for approval by Council and 10 oversee the

financial administration ohlle Centre

10 propose the appo intment of members to serve on the board of stud-

Duties or Co-ordinator

The Co-ordinator shall be responsible for the day-to-day adminisrration of

the Centre according to the policy established by the Board. the drawing up of the

annual budget and the financial statement and report of the activilies ohlle Centre for

presentation to Senate and the Council of the University.

Amendments 10 Ihis statute

Amendments 10 this statute may be proposed by the Board for the approval

of the Council or the Universi ty.
