Social Development , on the advice of the Food Standards Bmord, hl.$

made the following rel\llations: -

I. These reg\llations may be cited 3$ the Preservatives in Food

(Amendment ) Regulations. 19!M andshaUbe read andoonstruedl.$OIIC

witb the Preservative1 in Food Regulations, 1994, hereinafter referred

to 1.$ Mthe principal replations".

In regulation 2 of the principal regulations, for the definition of

Mpennitted prescrvative M there shall be substituted the following

~Mpermitled pTeservative~ means any preservative listed in

Columns I and 2 of the Fint Schedule to these regulations, or its

alternative form 3$ referred to in Columns 3 and <I of sucb Schedule.

and subject 10 the condilions of use applicable thereto in Column 5

of such Schedule. or 3$ may be referred to in respect of a specified

food under the Second Schedule to these regulations;".

For regulation 4 of the principal regulations there shall be

substituted the following

In to far as preservatives are concerned, a ~fied

food may only have in it or on it the permitted preservative

listed in relation thereto in CoI\lDlD 2 of tht; Second Schedule

10 these regulations or the alte rnative form referred to in

Columns 3 and 4 of the First Schedule thereof provided it

satisfies the requirement regarding the maximum level of

SIKh preservative in relation to the particular type of food as

listed in Column 3 of the Second Schedule or 1.$ may be

otherwise provided for under the Second Schedule." .

4. For the Fint Schedule 10 the principal reg\llation s there shall

be substituted the following
