IN exercise of the powers conferred by section 80 of the Customs

Ordinance, the Minister of Finance has made the following

regulations:-

t. ( I) These rellltations may be cited as the CU$toms

(Amendmen t) Regulations, 1993, and shall be read and construed as

one wi th the Customs Regulations, 1957, hereinafter referred toas ~the

principal regulations" .

(2) These ~gulations shall come into force on the date of

their publication except for the provisions of paTllgraphs (a) and (b)

subpaTllg~ (i) to (ili) of regulation t2 thereofwhich shall come into

force on the 3rd May. 1993.

In regulation 8 of the principal regulations, for the words

"'Luqa Airport" the~ shall be substituted the words "Malta

International Airport

For ~gulation 16 of the principal ~gulations there shall be

substituted the following

(I) All me rchandize imported into these Islands in

respect of which adminion is claimed under the E.E.c' R(J/e of

DUlY col umn of the Customs Tariff, shall be accompanied by the

certifi<:a te iu.ued in /lCrordana: wit h the provisions of the

Agreement of Association between Malta and the European

Commu nity.

(2) The importer shall, however , declare in all cases

o n the proper entry form . the coun try of origin of the goods and. in

the event of that declaration not being made to the sa tisfaction of

the Comptroller of Customs, the Comptroller may ~fuse clearance

of the goods unt il Q certificate of origin is produced .

In paragraph (2) of regulation 17 of the principal regulations

for the words ~ the Ci vil Airport Station at Luqa"' there shall be

substituted the words '" the Customs Station althe Malt a International

Airport" .

In paragraph ( I ) of~gulation ]9A of lheprincipal regulations,

for the \\"Ords MLuqa Airport" there shall be substituted the words

"Mal ta International Airport ~ .

In regula tion 21 of the prinei pal regulations, for the figures

" 1976" tbere shall be substituted the words ~Cap. 337", and in the

proviso 10 the same n:gulation for the .... ord Mforty~ then: shall be

substituted the words ~one hundred~,

For rcgulation 32 of the principal regulations. then: 511a1l be

For reguLation 36 of the principal regulations there shall be

(2) The Comptroller of Customs ma y allow goods to be

landed at any place o the:r tha n a n approved landing place provided

soch goods are placed in the charge of an ofrlCer o f tile Customs.

(3) The person on whose behalf goods are landed as

provided u nder paragraph (2) of this regulation shall pay the

Comptrolle r. o n demand . a charge aooordin g to the: ratesspecified

below: -

charge for transport shall be cakulated as speciroed in sub-

paragraph (b) above with an additional charge of one

Maltese lira. which additional charge shall be reduced 10

10. In paragraph ( I) of regulation 49 of the principal regulations

for the words MDuty Free Supplies" there shall be substituted the words

11 . 'The F1m Schedule to the principal regulations shalt be

amended as folloW5;~

(a) for item 2 thereoft here shall be substituted the following ;

(b) items 4 and 6~aJl be deleted and items S, 7.8and 9shall

be re·numbered 4. 5. 6 and 7 r~pectively.

12. The Third Schedule 10 the principal regulations shall be

amended as foUows;~

(b) No refunds of store-rent dlall be effected

on an y part of the consign ment released from bond, found

damaged or destroyed by the owner before the expiry of

the CUTTent si~'month period.

(c) No releases from a particular consignment

shall IJc, allowed unless 5lOre-rent due in accordance with

the provisions of this Schedule has been duly paid.

(d) Releases from consignments of identielll

items shall only be allowed on a first·in first -out basis.~;

(iii) in paragraph 4 as renumbered, for tile words "The

rates for a whole period of fifteen days, thirty days or one
