IN e~ercise of the powers conferred by s«tion 40 of the Medical

and Kindred Professions Ordinance. Ihe Mini ster for Home Affairs and

Social Development , after consul ting the Council of H ealth . has made

the following regulations

I . 'These regulations may be ciled as the Orod Retinoid Medicinal

Pnparations Regulations . 1993.

( I) No medical praaitioner, dental surgeon or denl ist may

prescribe any oral retinoid medicinal prepar~tion to any patient unless

he has in respect of that patien l a written authorisatKlD so 10 pre.w:ribe

from t he Superin tendent ofPuhlic Health .

(2) The Superintendent of Public Health shall grant such

aUlhorillltion if he is IiO advised by a panel made up of Government

medical consultants appointed by him for the purpose . For the purposes

of making their reoommendations the panel shall have the right to

eJ:amine the pa tlen; in respect of whom a req uest {Of" approval of such

prescriplion has been made .

(3) Any authorisation issued by the Superintendent of Publk

Health for the purposes of this regulation lIhall in<:lude an Authoriulion

Number which lIhal1 be quoted on the prescription issued by the medical

praCl itiuner, dental surgeon or den tist who has been authorised

accordingly .

(4) The provisions of this regu lation shall nOI apply to any

prescription for suc h preparations issued by a consult an t dermatologist

in the employmen l of Government when wch prescriplion is issued

from a Government hOlipital Or clinic.
