l. The re is hereby est abl ished an Institute or Youth Studies al the University of

Malta .

<I ) to organise eeniflCate , diploma and degree courses sub;':ct 10 the

statutes and I"<:guJ:iUions of the Universi ty

(b)

to conduct research with a focus on youth studies;

(e) to organ ise conferences. se mina rs and o ther meetings to study topics of

in te rest related to youth studies;

(d) to develop interna tional links wi th simila r institutiorK and Universities

abroa d, especiall y those lhat spedalise in youth studies; and

(e)

to carT)' OIIt all other acts a ncillary or co nducive 10 Ihe forgoi ng aims.

The Instit ute shall be governed by a Board. which shall be composed as follows

Chairman : The Rector or his deputy

Vice·Cha innan: The Director of Ihe Instilute

One member appointed by the Minu ter responsible for Yo uth

One member appoi nted by the National Council o f YOIJth

One member el«1ed from and by the acadc mkslaff o f the Institute

Onc me mber elected from and by the sludcnl$ oflhe Inslilllte

One me mber appointed by Coundl ;

One me mber appointed by Senate

1lle fu nctions o f the Board shan be tlte following

(I) todetermine the policy o f the Instilute with regard to theachieve rnent of

Ihe a nns o f the Ins\;tu te;

(b)

to ensure the proper fi nancial adm ini$tniltion o f the Institute; and

(e) 10 collaborate with other bodies, local and foreign as necessaT)' for the

a(:hieve ment of Ihe aims of th e Ins\itute.

The Institute shall haw: I DirectOf" and stlfr.

(2) The Dirtttor shlU be Ippointed by the Council of the Un ivenity fOf" I

(3)Academic slllff as shall be Ippointed by the Council on the

recommendation of the Board;

The Finance Officer of the Univenity shall be the Treasure r of the Institute. The

Director shall prepare the annual budgel orthe Ill5litute and submit il to tile Board for

approval . The Director shall alsosubmittoCouncil a financial state ment and to Se nate

and Council_n Innual report on the activities of tile Institute .

Amendments to tllis statute may be proposed by the Board and shall require the

approval of Council.
