University Students (Rates of Stipends) Regulation~, 1991

IN exercise of the powe~oonfe rred by subsection (3) of section 39

of the Educatio n Act. 1988 the Minister of Education and the Intetior,

with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance. has made the following

regulations: -

There shall be paid the stipends indicated in the Schedule to

these regulations 10 students who follow courses at the University of

Studies o f Malta who -

(a) arc Maltese citizens. and

(b) have registered as regular students for a full-time day

course on or after the 1st October, 1987 or aTe following the

Foundation Studies Courne, and

(c)

are atlending regularly and making sat isfactory progress,

(d) are not in receipt of othcr remuneration for services

rendered to third parties during .the academic year, excluding the

Summer Rccess

Provided that in the case of paragraph (d) above, a student

may be allowed to receive other remuneration if the work. perfonned

does not intcrfere with his duties as a full-ti me student, and that when

such permission is grall1ed, a sum equivalell1 to the remuneration

received by such student from the other source shall be deducted from

his stipend.

(1) Stipends are paid during th e academic year , including the P.,;.,dso!

Christmas and Easter Recesses, but excluding the Summer Recess.

(2) Where the structure of particular courses so warrant, the

Minister responsible for education may approve the payment of a

stipend also during the Summer Recess.

With effect from the 1st October, 1991, students pursuing 3 ..

second or su bsequent course after having completed or partially

followed another course of the same level , shall only be entitled to

receive half the stipend for that period of time that is equivalent to the

period spe nt in the previous course. iffor that previous course they were

in receipt of a stipend. Such students shall only be entitled to a full

stipend for the remaining period of time after termination of the first

period of half stipend.
