Citation

This Sta t ute may be ciled as SlIllute 04 - 1be Matriculation and

Secondary Education CertifICate Examinations.

L There shall be a Matricu lation EJ;aminalion held al !Wo levels: Advanced

( AM) a nd Intcnnediau: ( IM ). and a Secondary Education Certificate (SEC)

Examination.

In each year there shall be ' .... 0 ~ionsor the e~aminalions_

Education Cenificue Examinations Board (M & SEC Boa rd ) appointed in terms o f

paragraph 4.2(2) below.

I. Tht' functions of the Matriculation and Seoondary Ed ucation Certificate

Exami nations Board shall be

( i) to make rccummenda tions to Senate regHrding regulations requi red for

the proper conduct of the examinations;

(ii) to conduct the examina tions in accordance with the regula liom made

by Senate;

(iii) to ma ke reoom mendations to Senate regard ing syllabuscs. which

wou ld be prepared after con sultation with curricu lum ex perts. schools and the

Department of Education

(iv) to make recomme ndations to Se nate regarding the appointment of

Boardsof Examiners;

(v) to submit \0 Sena te a general repon on the examinations held during

th e pre vious year;

(vi) 10 make recommendations \0 Senate on all maltcl'$ related 10 the5e

examinations and on matters refe rred \0 it by the Senale or other University

boards;

(vii) 10 make recomme ndat ions 10 Senate alld Council for the appoinurn:nl

of a Secretarial. with executive powers, which shall consist of an academic and an

admi nistrative division; and

(viii) 10 make recommendations to Council regarding appropriate fuoding .

2. (a) The MalriculaliQn and Seoolldary Educatio n Ce rtificate ExaminaliollS

Board Shall consist of nine members 3$ follows

(i)

a Chairman (the ReCloror his nominated deputy);

(ii) IlIree members of the academic Slaff appointed by the Senate of the

University;

(i iil three members from the Depanment of Education appointed by the

Directorof Education;

(iv) one member nominated by and from the members o f the Private Schools

Association ;

the Registrar.

Th e Secretary of the Board 5hall be the Regi strar or his nominated

(c) The number of members required to fonn a quorum shall be five

(d) A Vicc-Chainnan shall be appointed by the Matriculation and

Seoondary Education Ce rtificate Examinations Board from among the members

appointed in tCrT115 of 2(a) (ill) above ;

MC!Ilben shall be appointed for a tenn of three years

Provided that the fim three members appointed under 2(a) (ii) o r unde r 2(a)

(Hi) above shall be so appointedone for a tenn of two years, onc for a tcnn orthr~

years and the o ther for a te nn of fou r ycars

Provided further that if a member appointcd under 2(a) (ii) or 2(a) (iii) above

resigns, the person appointed to fill the vacancy created shall hold o ffice for the

remainder of lile tenn of the member he replaces.

Regulations aM Syllabuws

I. Regulations made by Senate for the examinations leading to the Matricula tion

and Scwndary Education certifICates and the sy Uabu!;CS for each subject shall normally

be published each year and at lea51 two years before the date o f tile examination to

which the y refer.

T I. The Matriculation and Second ary Education Certifiaue Examinations

Board shall be responsible for the Matriculation and School Leaving Examinations to

be held in 1990and 1991. regulations fo r which have already been made by the Senate.
