IN exercise o f the powers conferred by sect ion 3 of the Supplie$ and

Services Act and by secliQn 2 o f the Fees Ordinance , the Ministe r for

Developme nt of Tertiary Sector. with the concurre nce of the Minister

of Fina nce, has mude the following regulations:-

I. These regulations may be cited as the Sale of Pigs for

Slaughteri ng and Pork (Control) (Amendment) Regula tions. 1990. and

shall be read and construed asone with the Sale of Pigs for Slaughte ring

and Po rk (Cont ro l) Regu lations. 1975. hereinafter referred to as "the

principal regulations".

Immediatdy after the definition of M Dire<:tor~ in regulation 2 A ... ndmen'of

of the principal regulations, there shall be inserted the following new of

definit ion:-

M Mdistributor" mea ns any person licensed under these

regulations to purchase por k from the Gove rnment Abattoir on

behalf of retailers and to transpon pork from the Government

Abattoi r to retai l shops;" ,

J. In paragraph (1) of regula tion 4 of the principal regula tiQns for Ano<ad"",,,, of

( I) Regulation 5 o f the principal regulations shall be' A~_

renumbered regulation 7 thereof.

(2) Immediately after regulation 4 of the principal

regulations there shilll be added the following new regulations:-

(I) No person shal l act as a dist ributor unless he is

in possession of a licence issued by the Dire<:lor authorising

hi m so to atl.

(2) Any such licence ~ hall remain valid for the

pe riod for which it is issued o r renewed. or until it is

wi thdrawn by the Director. whicheve r iSlhe earlie$t date ; and

if no period is mentioned in lhe licence or in any renewal

Ihereof it shall, unless it is earlier withdrawn as aforesaid ,

expire on the 31s1 day o f Decembe r of the year of its issue or

renewal.

(3) The Director may , in issuing such a licence.

allach thereto any condition or conditions as he may deem fit.

(4) The Director shall have the right at any lime 10

withdraw any licence issued under these regulat ions, and in

particular if he is satisried that any of the conditions of the

licence have not been observed.

(5) A licence issued by the Dir« lOr under these

regulations shall nOI exempt the holder from the requirement

of having any other licence unde r any othe r law.

The annual fee leviable for the first issue of a

distributor's licence shall be five Maltese tiri (Lm5), and the

annual fee leviable on every renewal of such licence shall be

three Maltese liri (Lm3). ".
