Regulations establishing Criteria for the Selection of Stud ents for

Admission to Ihe Course leadin g 10 the Degree of Bachelor of Dental

Surgery (B.Ch.D.) starting in October 1992

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 28 and

29 o f the Education Act, 1988, the Pro-Chancellor of the University

of Malta has promulgated the following regulatio ns made by the Senate

of the University of Malta in virtue of the powers conferred upon it

by section 33 of the said Ad.

Citation

These Regulat ions may be cited as Regu lations establishing

Criteria for the selection of students for admission to the cou rse leading

10 the Degree of Bachelor of Dental Su rgery (B .Ch.D.) starting in

October 1992.

J. Admission to the next B.Ch.D. course, which wi ll start in October 1992. will be

limited to twelve Maltese students.

Only those st udents who qualify for admission a~ regular students of the

Universi ty, in teons of the Admission Regu lati ons in force at the time. and who satisfy

the special course requirements will be considcred.

The twelve places will be filled as follows

(a)

the Advanced levcl grades obtained in the three subjects

(i) Physics or Physics-wit h·Mathematics,

(ii) Chemistry. and

(iii) Biology or Zoology

will be considered fi rst.

(b) If there are exact ly twelve applicants with two passes at Grade B or better

and one pass at G rade C or beller obtained in one or IWO sessions. these and only

these will be admi tted to the course.

(c) If there are more than twelve applicants wi th two pa'iSCS al Grade B or

be lle r and onc pass a t Grade C or better obtained in one or two sessions. twelve will

tJ.t, admitted according to the following categories, listed in o rder of preference

first, thOS<;' with 3A 's obtained in one session;

then, those with 2A 's and 18 obtained in one sessio n;

then, those with (2A 's and le) or (lA a nd 2B's) obtained in one session;

then. those wi th (lA. 18 and lC) or (3 B's) obtained in onc session;

then, Ihme with 3A 's obtained in two se&Sions;

then. those willl 2A '5 and lB obtained in two sessions;

then. those with (lA '5 and IC) or (lA and 28's) obtained in two sessions;

then. those with 28's and le obtained in one session;

then. th ose with (lA. IS and 1C) or (3B's) obtained in two sessions;

then. those with 28's and le obtained in two sessions.

(i) If it is necessary to distinguish between applicants in the same category,

preference will be given those who have obtained the Certificate in Foundation

Studies.

(ii) [fihis is st ill not enough. Advanced Level passes. al Grade Corbencr. in

any of Philosophy. English, Mathemalicsand ComputerScience, will be taken into

~ccount.

(d) If there are fewer th an twelve applicants with two passes al Grade B or

bene f and one pass al Grade C or bctterobtained in one or two sessions, all these will

be adm;ned and the bal ance will be admiued by the Admissions Board after taking

into account globally the Advanced Level grades obtained in the three subj ects

required, the number of sessions in which these have been obtained, possession of the

Ccrtificate in Foundation Studies, and passes at Advanced U:\'el. 31 Grade C or

hetter, in any of Philosophy, English, Mathematics and Computer Science ,
