IN exerciseoflhe powersoonferred upon him byseclions 28(S)and

29(6) of the Educatio n Act , 1988. t he Cha nce llor of the Un;verslly of

Malta has promulgated the following Regu lations made by the Senale of

l lie University of Malta in virtue o f the powers conferred upon it by

section 33 of the said Ael: -

These Regulations may be cited as the B.Ch.D . Regula tions an d

shall be applicable to the courses which started in or after~lobe r 1988.

I. To be eligible for Ihe award of the Degree of Bachelor of Demol Surgery

(a) be registered as a matritulated st udent in tenns of the Admission

Regul ations of the Uni"emty;

/b) satisfy tile Special Course: Requirements in accordance with Regulation 3

Before being admiucd loanyofthe Examinacions. a candidate mUSI produce a

cert ifica te. signed by the Head o f tile Department. showing that he/she has completed

sat isfactorily the schedule of practical and clinical work prescribed for the year.

(a ) llIere shall be two sessions of E~am i nations at the end o f the Fi f'!;t Year.

the Second Yea r and the Third Ye3 r of the Course. onc in May!1une and the othe r in

September.

(b ) In addition to the requirements of Rcgulatiorl 5 regarding Progress

T{'sts. a carldidatc must pass cach year's Ex ami natKlrI before being allo"'ed to joirl the

followrlg year of the course.

In each subject o f the Examirlations held at the coo of tile fi";l th ree years of

the course. the namesof candidates who ha~e passed the examination shall be published

in alphabetical orde r in each o f four groups: A. B. C aoo 0 according 10 their standard

of merit. Carldidates whose names do not appear in any of tile four groups will be

considered to ha\'e fai led the exami nat ion in the wbject cooa:rned.

The Hnal Examination

Th{' Final ExaminatiOn shall be, held in MaylJ une o f the fourth ye ar. and

there sha ll be IWO addi tional sessions o f the Firlal Examina tion in the following January

and June.

Lt A cand idalC shall be required 10 lake all the subjects of the Final E~amination

in onc session unless he mkes the Final Exam ination as pro" ided for in Regula tions 15

and It'!.

The names of candidates who have ~d Ihe Final Examination at the first

May/Ju ne Session shllll be published in alp habeltical order in 11010 c.ategorie$: 'Passed

wi th Distinction' and ·I' ussed·. Exceptiorml performancc in a subject shall also be

indicuted ' Rlhe list . The Resuh shall take into account the pcrformance of thecandidate

throughout the course.

In the two additional $<'SSions referred to in Regulation 12 the nllm~'S o f successful

candidates shall be publiShed in alphabetical orde r in a sim ple Pass List.

In the first tWO sessions of the Fin al Exam inatio n, a candidate who lakes all

three subjects of the Examinat ion may be referred in one subject. A list of suc h

candidates sh,llI be pub lished indicating the subject in which each candid~tc has been

referred.

A candidale who has been referred in ORC subject may take the exami nation

in that su bjec t at lhe nex l session. Ifhc passes the examina tion in Ihat subject. his name

shall be incl uded in IIle lisl ofthosewhoha"e passoed lhe Final Exam inmion. Ifhe fails he

shall be deemed 10 ha"c failcd Ihe Final Examinmion as a woolc.

Board may prcscribe.

A candida te who does not p;lss Ihe Final Exam ination in any of the t hree

sessions prescribed in Regu lation 12 may be allowcd by the Facully Board 10 re peal the

fourth year of the COUDC under such conditions as it deems fi t to impose aflod to take Ihe

Final Exam ination at thc cnd of lhat year. Such a candidate shall nO! quali fy for a ' Pass
