DANGEROUS DRUGS ORDINANCE (CAP. 101)

Dangerous Drugs (Internal Control) (Almndment) Rules, 1989

IN exercise of lhe powers conferred by section 9 of the Dangerous

Drugs Ordinance, thc Ministcr for Social Policy, on the advice of the

Council of Health , has made the fo llowing rules:-

I. These rulc! may be ci ted as the Dangerous Drugs (Internal CilllkHI.

Control) (Amendmen t) Rules, 1989 and shall be read and construed as

onc with the Dangerous Drugs (Inte rnal Con trol) Rules, 1939 G.N.:!92of

herei nafter referred to as '~ the principal rule5'·.

Rulc 7A of the principal rules shall be amended as follows:-

(a) for paragraphs ( 1) Qnd (2)

substituted the following

"(I) Wi thout prejudice to the provisions of rule 6 of

these rul es-

(a) no medic.al practitioner may prescribe any drug

to any person unless such person is in pO:SSCMion of a

Control Card, as per Fourth Schedule to these rules,

issued for the purpose by the Superintendent of Publie

Health;

(b) in prescribing any drug to any person, the

prcscribr: r shall en ter in a e1ear. indelible and legible

manner all Ihe detail~ ~t out in columns I to 4 of Ihe

Conlra) Card. and sha ll then retu rn Ihe card to sueh

perwn together wilh the prescriptio n

Providcd that a medical practitioner may. in making the

application on behalfof a pcrson on the rcqu est form asset out

in the Fifth Schedule to these rules, also issue a prescription for

a supply of a drug to such person and moy attach I~

prescription to such request form

Provided further that such prescription shall only beaxne

valid when the provisions of the proviso to paragraph (2) of this

rule have bee n eornplied wilh .

(2) Thc Superintendent shall issue such Control Card to

the person concerned on receipt of a rcquest. from a medical

practitioner to tllis effect. made on the form as set out in the

Fifth S<:hedule to these rules

Provided that in thecase of a pr~iption for asupplyof a

drug as provided for in the provisos to paragraph (1) of this

rule. the Su~rimendent shall e nter the details of the relali~c

prescription in oolumns ) to" of the Cont rol Card. ";
