I'wlll")' (Eroilen) Kt"f"ping Regulations 1989

IN exercise of lhe powers con ferred by section 87 of lhe Pre vent ion

of Disease Ordi nance. the Minister of I'roductive Deve lopmenl. on tile

adv ice of th e Counci l of Health . has made the followi ng reguJalions:-

Keeping Regulations. 1989.

In these regulations. unlCM the cont ext otherwise requires -

"DireClor" means the DireclOr of Agricu lture and Fisheries

and includes any officer of the depa rtme nt dul y autllorised by th c

director to aCl on his behalf

"broiler" mean s a fowl wh icll is raised for meat production and

which has not. al the time of slaughter. reached reproduClive

mat uri ty;

Mproduccr- mea ns a person who rears and keeps broi lers

inte nded for sale for huma n consum ption.

J. ( I) No producer Shall rear and keep mo re than twenty

broilers unle$S a licence is issued in hi s na me by Ih.: Direc tor.

(2) A licencc shall specify the ,naximum number of broi 'ers

which can be ke pt by a partic,,:ar producer al a specific place. and it may

nol be transfcrrcd from o ne produccr 10 another wi thou t the specific

authori ty of t lie Direetor

Provided that the Director may period icall y reduCi: du ri ng the

year the number of broilers to be kept at a p~rticula r time according to a

quota to be fixed al his discretion and to be advised in wriling to the

produce r.

(3) A licence may o nly be grAntcd by Ihe Director upon an

applica tion by the producer on [he appropriate form issued by th e

Dir.:ctor.

(4) A licence shall be valid roronc year. and may be re newed

by the DirtclOr from year to year.

(5) No licence shal l be issued or renewed unle ss the Director

is "a[isficd thut the place wh ere the broilers Hfe being kept is sui table for

sucll purpose. and no structural eXlensionsor alte rations may beearricd

out in any pl:lce co ...... red by a lice nce unless previo usly authorised by IlIe

Dircctor_

Th e Director may al any li me en ler any place: where any

number of broil ers is k.epl, or where he suspects thal broilers are being

k.epl, i rre spccl i~e of their destinat ion a nd whether kept by a produeer or

by any Olhe r person. for the purpose of inspect in g th e place and Ihe

broilers k.ept the rein.
