Pro"ided that in eXCl'ptional circumstances the psychiatrist in

charge of a designated clinic may in wri ting Dutho!Uc the pTe$Cribing or

supply of such drug in any other form as may be indicated for the patient

underhi~care .

There ~hall be ke pt at each such clinic-

(a ) a register of persons under methadone t rc~tmenl at a

designa ted clinic as pro"ided for under rules 2 to 4 of these rules,

I t shall be the duty of the I'liychiatrist in charge of a designated

clinic to ensure that strict procedu res are enforced in respect u f Ihe

securi ty and accountability of melhador>e prcparntions stocked at such

clinic.

Saving any other provision of the se rules, no person othe r than

the Chief Pharmacist e mployed wi th the Department of Health may

import. stock or supply any methadone .

(I) When any medi,al practitioner or dental surgeon issues a

prescription for methadone to a patient he shall issue the prescription on

the form se t out in the Schedule to these ru les.

(2) It shall be Ihe dUly of Ihe mediall pnlctitioner o r dental

surgeon who prescribes methadone as provided for in this rule to cn le r

in a legible manner all the de tails contained in Part A of the said form.

It shall be Ihe dUly of the apothecary dispensing a pre-

contained in Part C of the said form in accordance with any inst ructions

contained therei n.

'1. (I) Anv prescri ption for methadone as is referred 10 in rule 8

of thcse rules shall only be dispensed from a Governmen t Pharmm:y

au thori sed for Ihat purpose by the Superintendent of Pu blic Healt h.

No methadone may be dispensed un lcss the prescription

Provided tha t when the prescription is not issued in confomtity

with the provisions of rule80f these rulesor where the dose preSocribed is

in excess o f the normal therapeutic dose for methadone, the apothecary

in charge of such phamtacy may. ifhe oonsiders the case as an emergency

and after aSCl! rt aining the iden tity of the patient by meansof the iden tity

card . issue a suppl y for two days only and shall immedia te ly inform the

prescri~r Hceordingly.

surgeon prescribing pethidine or any salt thereof to a patient who h35

commenced or is about to oommence treatment with such drug for a

period exceedin g fuur wee ks. to inform the Superintendent of Public
