ACT No. XXII of 2018

An Act to amend the Constitution of Malta, to ensure that the

environment is given recognition in the Constitution.

BE IT ENACTED by the President, by and with the advice and

consent of the House of Representatives in this present Parliament

assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows

The short title of this Act is the Constitution of Malta Short title.

(Amendment) Act, 2018, and this Act shall be read and construed as

one with the Constitution of Malta, hereinafter referred to as "the

Constitution".

Article 9 of the Constitution shall be re-numbered in its Amendment of

entirety as article 9(1) and immediately thereafter there shall be added article

Constitution.

the following new sub-article

"(2) The State shall protect and conserve the environment

and its resources for the benefit of the present and future

generations and shall take measures to address any form of

environmental degradation in Malta, including that of air, water

and land, and any sort of pollution problem and to promote,

nurture and support the right of action in favour of the

environment.".

18th June, 2018.
