AN ACT 10 amelld the Social Security Act, Cap.l I8.
BE IT ENAC I ED by the President. by and with the advice and
consent of the House o f Represcnlat i\·es. in this present Parliament
assembled , and by the au thori ty of the same, 115 follows:-
I. (I) This Act may be ci ted as the Social Sec urity
(Amendmenl) Act , 1995 , and shall be read and construed as one with
the Social Security Act, herei nafter referred to as "the princi pal Act".
This Act shall be deemed to have come into force as

follows
(a) sections I1 to 12 shall be deemed to have come into
force on the 1st January, 1994
(b) section 18 shall be deemed to have come into foree on
the 2nd January , 1995
(c)
sections 2 to 10. sec tions 13 to 17, and sec tion 19 shall
be deemed to have come into force on the 7th January, 1995; and
(d)
section 20 shall come into force on the 6th January ,
1996.
In subsection (2) of section 18 of the principal Act for the
words. " incapacity for work :', there shall be substi tutcd the words,
"incapacity fOf work in respect of whic h it would otherwise be payable
in term s of su bsection (I) hereof.".
3, In subsection (4) of section 27 of the principal Act, for the
words "Lm2.60 per week" there s hall be substituted the words ··Lm2.82
per week".
Section 30 of the principal Act shall be amended as follows: -

In subsection (3) of section 66 of the principal Act for the
words " Lm2.60 per week" there shall besubstituted the words "L m2.82
per week".
Section 69 of the principal Act shall be amended as follows:-
(a) in su bsection (1) thereof. for the words "Lm9.25 per
week" there s hall be substituted the words "Lm 10.50 per week";
"d
(b) in subsection (2) thereof. for the words "Lm 19.45 per
week" there shall be su bstitu ted the words " Lm 20.9S per week".
In section 70 of the priocipai Act , for the words " Lm63" AiPIC'b1l
there shall be su bstituted the words " Lm66".
In paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (I) of se<:tion 72 of
the principal Act, for the words "Lm7.30 per week-. wherever they
occur. there shall, in each case, be substituted the words "LmS .80 per
week".
In paragraph (ii i) of SUbsection (I ) of section 73 of the A.;;.,,' ,. or
principal Act, for the words "Lm2S60" there shall be substituted the lOCIior, 7] of,ho
words "Lm2938" .
I I. In the proviso to section 89 of the princi pal Act fo r the words
from '· to a lower increase; sohowever that," to the words "of the
aforesaid maximum pensionable income:', there shall be substituted
the words, "'to a lower increase.".
In section 90A of the principal Act for the words "Save as
provjded for in the proviso to section 89 of this ACI, notwi thstandi ng"
there shall be subslitutcd Ihe word "Notwithstanding",
13 . The Second Schedule to the princi pal Act shall be amended
as follows
(a)
paragraph 3 of Pan I thereof shall be amended as
follows: -
(i) in sub-paragraph (d) thereof, for the words "paid
apart from Ihis Ac!." thert: shall be substituted the words "paid
apan from thi s Act: and": and
(il) immedi ately after sub-paragraph (d) thereof there
shall be added the following new sub-paragraph (e):-
"(e) the first Lm200 by way of earnings derived
by any person from the carrying out of hand knining,
lace making, crochet and embroidery activities, at home,
and the manufacture of which does not involve any
mechan ical processes,";
(b) paragraph 4 of Part 11 thereof shall be ame nded as
follows
( i)
in sub-para graph (d) the re of, for the words
"74 .3%~ there shall be substituted the words "75 .7%" ;
(ii) in sub-paragraph (0 thereof, for the words "any
stipend received" there shall be substituted the words "any
stipend received by any membe r of the household, other than
the head of the household or the spouse of such head of
household" and for the words "such a sc heme." there shall
be substituted the words "such a scheme;"; and
(Hi) imme<iia!ley after sub-paragraph (f) thereof there
shall be added the following new sub-paragraph (g):-
"(g) the first L m200 by way of earn ings derived
by any person from the carrying out of hand knitting,
lace making, crochet and embroidery activi ties. at home,
and the manufacture of which does not invol ve any
mechani cal processes.";
(c) parngraph 4 of Part III thereof shall be amended as
(i)
sub-paragraph (d) thereof, shall be amended as
follows
(a) for the words "74 .3%" th e re s ha11 be
substituted the words "75.7%";
(b)
sub-paragraph (ii) thereof, shall be deleted;

(c) sub sub-paragraphs (iii) and (iv) shall be re-
numbered as sub sub-para grap hs (ii) and (iii),
respectively;
(ii) in sub-paragraph (g) thete9f, for the words "of
entitlement." there shall be substituted the words "of
entitlement;"; and
(iii) immed.iately after sub-paragraph (g) thereof, there
shall be added the following new sub-paragraphs (h) and
(i):-
"(h)
contributions under this Act; and
(i) the first Lm200 by way of earnings derived
by any person from the carrying out of hand knitting,
lace making, crochet and embroidery activities, at home,
and the manufacture of which does not involve any
mechanical processes.";
(d) in paragraph 2 of Part IV thereof, immediately after
sub-paragraph (c) thereof there shall be added the following new
sub-paragraph (d):-
"(d) the first Lm200 by way of earnings derived by
any person from the carrying ou t of hand knitting, lace
making, crochet and embroidery activities. at home, and the
manufacture of which does not involve any mechanical
processes.";
(e)
paragraph 3 of Part V thereof shall be amended as
(i) in sub- paragraph (c) the reof, for the words
"payable unde r th is Act." there shall be subsliruted the words
"payable under th is Act;"; and
(ii) immediate ly aftersub-paragrnph (c) thereof, there
shal l be added the following new sub-paragraph (d)
