AN ACT further (0 lImend (he MlIChint ·mllde Cigllrettes (Excise Duty)

Act, Clip. 57.

BE IT EN ACfED by the President , by and with the advice and

consent of the Ho use of Representatives, in this present Parliament

assembled, and by the authori ty o f the same, as follows:-

( I) This Act may be cited as the Machine·made Cigarelles

(Excise Duty) (Amendment) Act, I99S, and shall be read and construed

as one Wllb the Machine- made Cigarettes (Excise Duty) Act,

hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act".

(2) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force o n the

23 rd November, 1994.

For subsection (1) of section 3 of the principal Act , Ihere shall

be substitUled the following

"(I) There shall be charged and levied by the Comptroller of

Customs on account o f the Government, in respect of every

quantity of cigarettes not exceediog ten in number , manufactured

in Malta, principally by machinery, from tobacco 0 0 which import

duty has been paid, imported either in leaf or in slalks cut or rolled

or otherwise requiring some further prou ss of manufacture for the

purpose of being made into cigare lles, the duty at the rates shown

here under

(a) in respect of cigaren es of an overall le ngth not

exceeding 1Smm ... ... . ........ ...... ....... . ...... . ........ .... . 1(k:5

(b) in respect of cigarettes o f an overall length

exceeding1Smm ...................................... ... ..... 12cO.".

For subsection (1) of section 5 of the principal Act , there shaU

be substituted the following

"(I) Such payment shall be indicated by affixing to every

packet, box, carton or other container, a band or stamp of a

denomination recko ned at the respective rale specified in

subsection ( I) of section 3 hereof, in respect of every quantity of

cigarettes not exceeding ten in every such packet, box , carton o r

other container.".
