BE IT ENACIED by Ibc President, by and with !he advice and

comen! of Ibc House of Reprcsenl-lLliyC!i, in this presenl Parliament

assembled. and by the authority of sam~ . as follows: -

I. (I) This Ad shall be cited as th~ Social Serurily (Amend·

ment) Act , 1993 and $hall be read and construed as on~ with th~ Social

Sealrily Act. hereinafter referm;llo as " the principal Ad" .

(2) This Act shall be deemed to have oome into fOf(:e as

follows

(a) section 2lhall be deemed 10 have come into force on the

ist Febniluy.I993;

(b) sections 4 and 5. paragnoph (a) of soction 7, sectionIlO to

12, paragmphs (a) and (b) of 5CCIion 15. 5CCIions 16 10 18 and 20

lhaU be deemed 10 havecom~ inlO fOfU in the 2nd JilJ1u.ary. 199);

(c) section 8 shall be deemed to have come inlO fora: on th~

6th January . 1990;

(d) s.ectioo 14shall be deemed to hive come into fora: on the

htlanuary . I987 ;

(e) paragraph (b) of section 7. section IJ and pananoph (c)

of section 15 $hall be deemed to have oome into fora: on the 4th

January , 1992;

(f) sectioo 19 shall bedeemecllO have c::ome inlO force on th~

4th January . 1993; and

(g) section~ 3. 6 and 9 shall be deemed. 10 have: oomc inlO

force on the respective daleS shown therein .

z. (I) The sections, subsections, pangraphs. subpanlgraphs.

Schedules and Pam thereof of the principal Act 8$ amended up to, and

in force on, the 31s1 JanWll)', 1993 shall, notwithstanding any

re numbering thereof in Cap. 318 in Volume VII of the Revised Edition

of the Law~ of Malta, be renumbered 8$ appears in the Sdieduk 10 this

Act,

(2) Any refereocc in the principal Act 8$ in fon.:c on the 311t

J anuary, 1993, shall notwitbstandilll anything appearillj in Cap, 318 in

Volume VII of the Revised Edition of the Lawsof Malta be deemed and

a:mslnied 10 be a refcreocc to the section or part thereof or Schedule or

Part thereof as renumbered by this Act, and the principal Act is hereby

amended accordingly ,

(3) Referena:s in this Act 10 a section, 5Ub$eo:tioo, para-

graph , $ubparagnph, 5<:heduJe or Pan thereof of the principal Act are

reference5 to the relative section, subsection, paragraph, subparagraph.

In subsoction (I) of Section 2 of the principal Act, in the

definition of ''"Service Pension". immediately after the wor<b" "Servioc

Pension" " there shall be iosened the words ''with effcct from the ht

day of April 1978," and immediately after the words " awarded to a

For subsection (1) of sectioo 108 of the principal Act there
