BE IT ENACI'ED by the President. by and with the advice and

consen t of the House of Representatives. in th is pre5ent Parliament

asse mbled. and by the authority of the same. as follows:-

I. This Act may be cited as the Public Lo"o ( Amendment) Act. SIIon

1990. and shall be read and ooostrued as one with the Public lotio

Ordinance. he re inafter referred to J$ " the principal law" .

Seclion I 1 of the principal law shan be amemkd as follows

(a) for subsection (2) thereof there shall be substituted the

following

the holding of each public tombola SC55ion. a

duty o f Lm 15. or such dUly as the Minister

responsible for finance may from time to time

(ii) in respect of each public lotte ry a

d uty eq uivalent 10 twenty five per centum of

the value. CIItablished to the sa tisfadion of the

D irector of Public U1tto. of the prize o r prizes

offered

Provided that the DirectorofPublic lotto may

grant exemption from payment of the duty

aforesaid in specific instances whcn a public lottery

or tombola is promOled and directed by any

society, institute or private person and the net

proceeds thereof aTe intended for a religious

purpose approved by the competent local

Ecclesiastical Authorities: o r for a charitable

purpose, or for the furtherance of the Boy Scout or

G irl Guide movement, or for the encouragemen t of

finc arl~, or for any othe r purpose approved in

writing by Ihe Minister responsible for finance.";

(b) for subsect ion (7) thereof, there shall be substituted the

"(7) Any lottery or tombola held on tile premises of any club

shall, for the purposes of this section, be deemed 10 be a public

[QUcry o r tombola, and the grantee of a permit to hold a public

tombola mentioned in paragraph (i) of subsection (2) hereof shall

exhibit such permit in a place which is easily accessible for

inspection. "; and

(c) in subsection (8) thereof, forthe words"a pcnaltyof Lm5Q"

there shall be substituted the words"a penalty of LmSOO".
