BE IT ENACrED by the Pn:sidc:n l. by and with the advice and
consen t of the House of Representatives. in this present Parliament
assembled. and by the authority of the same. as follow$:-
( I) This Act may be cited as the Wireless Telegraphy Shon uti<
(Ame ndment) Act . 1990. and shall be read and const rued as one wi th
the Win:less Tclegraphy Ortlinance(Cap. 49). hereinafte r referred tou
~the priocipallaw~ .
(2) Sections 3 and 5 orthis Act shall be deemed to haveoome
int o force on the 14th December. 1989.

(I) Immediately after the defi nition of M M alta~ in section 20f
the principal law. there shall be added the follo .... ing new definition

(2) In the principal Act. for the words "Ministe r responsible
for wirc less telcgraphf' wherever they occur. there shall be substituted
the .... o rd ··Minister".
J. Immedia tely at the end of subsection ( I) of section 3 of the
principal law there shall be added the following proviso
"Provided thut no licence shall be required for sound on ly
broadcast receive rs. ".
For the words a fine of ~ Iwe n ly-five ce nts" in the pro\';so \0
section 6 of the principal law. the re shall be substilOled the words-a
penalty of len MalleM: liri ~. and for the word - Fine" in the marginal
OClle therelo. the re shall be subslituled the word - Penalty".

agent applying for the same as soon as the Minisle r shall have
received from the su rve yor or inspector the ce rtifica te
aforesaid
Provided that the Mini ster may , notwithstanding
the provisions of Ihis subsection , issue a provisional ' icence
for a period of not more than six month s. on the first
registration of a vessel under the Maltese n ag. in such
ci rcumstances and ullder suc h conditions as he may deem
appropriate.
(2) A liccllcc shall be valid for the period . not
being more than a period of thiTt y-six ca lendar mo nths as may
be sta ted in the licence and may be re ne wed for successive
periods each not beingof more than thirty-six months, as may
be stated on renewal. ~.
