BE IT ENACTED by the Presidem, by and with Ihe advice and con...,n!

of lhe House of Representatives, ill Ihis present Parliament assembled, and

by lhe authority of the same, as follows:-

I. This A\:I may he ciled u the Medkal and Kindred Profes.sions

(Amendment) Act , 1987. and shall be read and oonstrued as onc with (lte

Medical and K indred Professions Ordinance, hereinafter referred 10 as "the

principal law ".

In sub5ection (5) of section 4 of Ihe priocipalla w for the words 1l1e

J. For paragraph (e) of subse<:tion (1) of section 5 of the principal law

and the provi so to the said 6ul:rsection (1). there shall be substituted the

following

"(e) the name of every citizen of Malta who hold; a suitable medical

quali6cation grdnted by a Medical School recognized by the Medical

Council and who. unless exempted by the said Council from .uch tc.t ,

passes a practical and or~l. test in medicin~. surgc;,)" midwifery and

gynaecology, forensic medlcme and commumty medlctne

Provided that a person to whom paragraph (d) or (e) of this

subsection applies shall on ly have his name entered in the Medical

Register if such person has served as a house physician or su rgeon in a

Government hospital or clinic or in any other branch of the health service

provided by Government, for a period of twO years or such lesser peri<.><J

as the Minister rcspomible for public health may , with the advice of the

Medical Council determine, or if the said Minister with the advice of the

said Council has declared that such service i. not required or if such

person has already carried out duties as a house physician or surgeon for

such period at a foreign hospital rewgnised by the Medical Council:'.

Section 6 of the principal law shall be amended as follows

The amendments made by sections 2 and 5 of this Act shall not

affect the validity o f any licence granted unde r sub5eclio n (5) of ,",ction 4

and subsectinn (4) of 5ecIion 58 , of the principal law, before the date of tbe

coming inlo force of this Act , to any foreign physician , surgeon or de nial

surgeon.
