BE IT ENACTED by t~ President, by and with the ad~icc and

consen t of the House of Representa tives. in this present Parliament

assem bled. and b~ the authority of the same. as follows :-

Nalional Assislance Act. 1956. hereinafter referred 10 as "the principal -'<I vm of

Aet".

Cl) This ACI shall be deemed 10 haYe come in lo force on lhe

or widowed, and who is ~lso unemployed. who proves to Ihe SlItis-

full·l ime basis and regu larly. of her parent or brothI.'!", sisler. grand,

parent. uncle. aun l. father or mother in.law. or brother

or sister in-law who is living in the s.l me household

as Ihal of !ouch female and wh o is suffering from a severe physical

or mental infirmi ty. as certified by a medical practi tioner spe<:ial iz.

in~ in the field of the infi rm ily denoted. or \\"ho is aged 60 yealli or

over and is physically or menIally una ble 10 uke care of hi mself

300 of his day to day needs. Ihen if such female is nOI registered as

an unemployed person with the Depa rtment of Labour and Emigra·

tion notwithstanding the fact !.hal she;s capable lor .... ork. she shall

nonetheless be en titled to Social Ass;51lnce as a sep8ll1te household

in acoomance wit11 lite ,"oviJions of this Act; but such assistance

shall not CJlceed 75 % of the fun rate applicable to a household con-

sisting of one person;

Provided that . thi i liubscetioll shall 110( apply where the person

who is being taken ca re of. has his parent or spouse living wilh him

in the r.ame household and such parent or spouse is mentally and

pllY~ically I:'Jpa b1c of taking cure of such person himsel f. ".
