I . (0 This Act may be cited as the National T ourism Organisa·

tion Act, 1984.

"Action Council for Tourism" means the Council by that name

and representing the Hotelli and Restaurants As!lOCiatinn, the

'As!lOCiation of Sclf..('.atering Accommodation, the Federalion of

Hotels, Pcnsil)lls and Catering Establishments. the Rent·A-Car

As!lOCialion, Ihe Association of Travel Agent! and other U!lOCia·

liom from time to time

"chairman" means the chairman of the Organisation appOinted

by the M inister under soction 8 of this Act;

',(:hid uocutive" means the chief uocutive of the Orpnisa·

tion appointod by the Minister under _lion 8 of this Ad

"fund" meanl the fund of the Orpnisation

"Minister" means the Minister rcspoosible for tourism aDd,

to the atent of any functions delegated. includes any penoo acting

under the authority of the M inister

''notify by pait" meam lIIe mai liDg. by ordi nary post. of any

notice o r corrapondence at the last mown address of lIIe addressee;

"Organi~tion" mean~ the National

T ourism Organisation

"visitor" mUM a perwn visiting Malta and wbo is not a

res.idenl in Malta.

J . ( I) T here shall be an organisation to be mown as the National

T ourism Orglmi"'lion made up of an Exccuti~e Board and a n Advisory

Board.

(2) The Organisation shall be under the dinction of the

MiDister on behalf of lIIe Governmen t of Malta.

nominated one by the Hotels aDd Restaurants Association and one by

the Association of Travel Agenu. two members nominated by the

Air Malta Com~ny and three members Dominated by the Minister.

(3) The chairman aDd the ch ief eJlecu\ive of the Executive

BaIrd appOinted by the Minister ullder this section shall m;e;ve JUCh

~muDeT1ltion as the Minister INY, afler consulting the Executive Board,

establiih from time to time.

(4) Sucb remuneration Ihlll he a ebar&e 011 the fund of 1M

Organisation.

'7, (\) The ElIoc:utive Boerd shall he resfJOll.'ible. through the

tbief exoc:utive. for the general administration of the dfail"$ and business

of the Organi!lation. I ud shaH also have th e following functions -

(a) to ad~ix the Minister on Ihe development of tourism in

Malta as well as on Ihe improvement of tourist and hotel aecommQ-

dation. ca\cring. t ranlPOrtation and other tou rist ameni ties and

facilities within the Maltese blaruh;

(h) to collect, manage Ind adminmer funds available 10 the

Organisation in order 10 a ny ou t its functions as sct oul in

section 4 of this Act;

(c) such other funclions as arise from th is Act or Iny other

law or as may be delegated to it by the Minister uDder tbis Act.

12) The Exoc:ulive Board may apooint any of illl memben for

Iny specific purpose in eonnedlon with the functions of the Orpnisation.

I. (I) The chai rman and the cbief executive of the Organisllion

shall be appointed by the Minuter from among persons who ID?C'ar 10
