ACT No. 111 of 1983

AN ACT further to amend the Marriage, Act, 1975.

BE IT ENACTED by the President, by and with the advice and

consent of the House of Representatives, in this present Parliament

assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

,1. This Act may be cited as the Marriage (Amendment) Act, 1983,

and shaH be read and construed as one with the Marriage Act, 1975,

hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act".

In subsection (3) of section 7 of the principal Act, for the

words "keeping the banns so posted up for not less than six hours a

day during a period of not less than eight days and incIuding two

successive Sundays" there shaH be substituted the words "keeping the

banns so posted up for a period of not less than eight consecutive days

exc1uding Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays".

In subsection (1) of section 9 of the principal Act for the

words "before the fourth day" there shaB be sub~tituted the word~

"before the sixth day".

Section 2 of this Act shall apply to all banns other than such Transitory

banns which were already posted up prior to the 7th March, 1983.
