S.I. No. 98/2018 - Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) (Amendment) Regulations 2018

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) (Amendment) Regulations 2018.

(2) These Regulations come into operation on 9 April 2018.

2. Regulation 54(1) of the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations 2006 (

S.I. No. 537 of 2006

) is amended—

(

a

) in subparagraph (

l

), by the deletion of “or”,

(

b

) in subparagraph (

m

), by the substitution of “a registration certificate, or” for “a registration certificate.”, and

(

c

) by the insertion of the following subparagraph after subparagraph (

m

)

“(

n

) a public services card (within the meaning given to it by

section 263

(1) (inserted by

section 9

(1) of the

Social Welfare and Pensions Act 2010

(No. 37 of 2010)) of the

Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005

(No. 26 of 2005).”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).

These Regulations amend the driver licensing regulations to provide for the use of the Public Services Card (PSC) as form of identity verification in the driving licence application process. The PSC will be one option for identity verification, as an alternative to other forms of identity documentation already accepted in the process.
