Explanatory Note
Statistics (National Employment Survey) Order 2003
S.I. No. 39 of 2003
The National Employment Survey (NES) will be carried out in March of this year and replaces the Structure of Earnings Survey which was last carried out in 1996. The NES will provide much-needed information on the distribution of individual employee earnings and on the factors which influence earnings levels. It will provide results which will be broken down by sector, region, occupation, age, sex, educational attainment, family status as well as many other important individual employee circumstances. It will cover all sectors of the economy and will show comparisons across economic sectors.
The purpose of the Order is to allow for the possibility of legal action against non-respondents. This would greatly increase response rates to the CSO and improve the overall quality of their statistical output both at National and European level.
