1. This Order may be cited as the Postal and Telecommunications Services (Amendment) Act, 1999 (Commencement) Order, 1999.
2. In this Order “Act of 1999” means the
Postal and Telecommunications Services (Amendment) Act, 1999
(No. 5 of 1999).
3. The ninth day of April, 1999, is hereby appointed as the day on which sections 1, 2, 3(1) (in respect of

4. The ninth day of April, 2000, is hereby appointed as the day on which section 3(1) (in respect of
section 40
(4) of the
Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983
mentioned in column (3) of the First Schedule of the Act of 1999) of the Act of 1999 shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)
This Order brings into operation on 9 April, 1999 certain provisions of the
Postal and Telecommunications Services (Amendment) Act, 1999
. The Order provides for the commencement of all provisions of the Act except for the repeal under sections 3(1) and 3(2) of certain of the provisions listed in the First and Second Schedules, respectively, and section 10 concerning the non-application of certain Acts to Bord Telecom Éireann p.l.c.
While the Order provides for the commencement of most of the provisions listed on the date of signing of the Order, it provides for the repeal of
section 40
(4) of the
Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983
on a date one year after the date of signature of the Order.
