1. This Order may be cited as the

Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996

(Commencement) (No. 2) Order, 1996.

2. In this Order, "the Act" means the

Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996

(No. 34 of 1996).

3. The 19th day of December, 1996, is hereby appointed as the day on which sections 8, 9, 10(4) to (11) and 14(1)(other than the provisions of the

Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1926

, and

sections 46

(10) and

90

(2) of the

Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983

, mentioned in column (3) of Part I of the Third Schedule to the Act) of the Act shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This order brings into operation on 19 December, 1996 certain provisions of the

Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996

. The Order provides for the commencement of provisions of the Act concerning the sale and issue of shares in Telecom Eireann, the entering into of related agreements, representation of employees on the Board of Telecom Eireann and related matters.
